I tried searching around but I couldn't find a straight answer to this. Does gates require heavy armor or does AC from light armor/armor transmuted to wood apply as well?

As an addition to that is transmuted/naturally wooden armor considered light armor or is it in it's own category?

Thanks in advance.

The higher the AC, the higher the resistance that's provided, up until a point. This will apply to each group of resistances, physical and magical once they reach a certain value. Also, the legacy provides a boost to armor use skills, so using armor that matches your armor use skills will improve your defenses. I think wood doesn't fall into any armor use category so it would provide aid to your resistance but you wouldn't get a boost any armor use skills.

Any AC from affects and armor counts. AC bonus/penalty from dex does not.

The type of armor makes no difference, just the AC value for the damage type you are getting hit with (slash, pierce, blunt, and magic).

You start getting echos when you hit divine AC (-120) going even higher produces more damage reduction... It maxes out around a 25-35% redux.

Because armor is sorta standardized by wear slot and material you will find in general that stuff classified as heavy armor works best but you can get a lot of milage from stuff that has a -AC affect (either gear or preps). Remember that berserk adds AC so if you are on the border be careful about using the skill. You won't get echos from affects moving you into or out of gates being active, only when you wear/remove a piece of gear.

gates also predates armor deflection and has no affect on it.

I'm pretty sure wood is not considered light armor or metal armor.

I could be wrong but I don't think the material matters for gates

That is probably true. I'm not sure if gates cares about light or metal armor use to be honest.
