#55514, "Crazy Idea - Why not consolidate (all) Forums?"
|
The playerbase is sufficiently small enough at this point that it makes little sense to further diffuse them across two (or three) separate forums run by two (or three) separate groups.
Originally, as far as I remember, the purpose of having QHCF was because IMM run forums were too strict, and essentially amounted to a tightly controlled regime which stifled the communities ability to have a real discussion/conversation/whathaveyou. QHCF filled that niche along with an active log board, and a nice wiki that was player friendly.
AIM Circles, and IRC will always exist, but it's not the place that new players start out - this website is... which puts them at a HUGE disadvantage, because this website unfortunately, is not the website that a newbie really needs to be on. QHCF is.
Now, IMMS that are also on the 'official' forums, are also on the QHCF forums as moderators, continuing to remove bad posts, and/or sensor posts. This has led to ANOTHER forum, which was once again filling the niche of a place to have real discussion/conversation/whathaveyou.
I see a pattern. Don't you? It's like that scene in star wars where Princess Leigh tells Darth that the tighter he closes his fist, the more systems (people) slip away.. well. That's sorta happening.
Now, I'm not saying that ANARCHY MUST RULE. No. There can be rules, such as no character assassination, or posting logs which out your character, or some such... But wouldn't it be a far better use of resources and/or combined staffing to create a more 'newbie friendly' environment/forum? Perhaps... just perhaps even serve as a start to consolidate the community to just.. have one forum?
I mean, you can post anon on the 'official' forums...even with your current character name... Heck, It might even encourage people to post.
Maybe I'm nuts, who knows. Maybe I'm too optimistic. I'd say this post has a 10% chance of not actually being deleted. Who knows.
Here goes.

I give you exhibit A.
I could challenge him to provide an example of me lying but he'd just make something up. Like saying I really did read pm's.

There are no Imm moderators on QHCF. You can read the list of current moderators of that forum from bottom of the board. I'll paste the list for your convenience:
Moderators: Isildur, DurNominator, daurwyn, The Faithful of Nazmorghul, Gabe, NbM
Who do you think is an Imm? We've had no Imm-VIPs since Nivek leaving VIP and there wasn't really much censorship from him back then either.

That would be the most charitable explanation for this post, which is seriously and objectively unmoored from reality in about six different places.
But you can't reach a reasonable conclusion if you start out by assuming a bunch of things that aren't true.
Edit: It's more effort than it's worth to me to break it down, but if someone else wants to, go for it.

Let me try again.
Hey,
Why don't we have one consolidated forum that is a bit more liberally moderated, so people feel free to _actually_ post on them. Move the wiki links here, and maybe encourage consolidation of information?
Yes? Good idea?

How are you going to achieve that?
There's really no bridging the gap between creeper forum and the staff. I'm not going to post someplace where people will try to get me fired from my real job, and they're not going to post someplace where I can point out which people are pretending to be which other people to astroturf.

That's crazy. I take by your tone that something like this has happened before.

more IMM involvement. More posting, more fun, more information, more engagement. That'd do wonders for PR alone - it's the kind of things that draws people out of retirement/hiatuses.

The imms don't moderate qhcf. I've never even able to read private messages etc. People spread these things and people believe it. Doesn't make them true.
Also, gabe would definitely not be keen on an imm moderated qhcf.
