#54304, "What stops player contributions for areas without being an Imm?"

I'm curious because I would love to write areas, etc, but have been told it's not going to happen unless I Imm. I'm not too keen on the Imm process, mostly because I don't know that I have the time they'll want live presence to be - but I would love to write small areas that are just fun "character" to add to CF (Or large ones)

What prevents this from being acceptable? Is it a legal thing because of the way CF is structured in that regard, or is it just a nightmare due to other reasons?

I'm asking because I'd like to contribute more in the areas I feel capable (Like coding and writing areas) but would consider myself a mediocre RPer.

This was discussed roughly three weeks ago in this thread.

In short, the area team isn't willing to commit time to do training, advising, reviewing, complementary work (custom code, etc.) and implementation for someone who isn't willing to commit to the process.

...why don't you guys make a NPC system?

Like, you could have certain players (who favor RP) petition to be basically a HEROIMM without the abilities to affect the mechanics of the game.

Since you already have people playing odd class/race/roles via email in this vein, it could function in a way like this?

You'd basically be a tough mob, but without skills like murder or attack openers. You could use certain skills to attack PCs but perhaps you'd be unable to use any worthwhile offensive laggings skills and large damage.

So, you could be something like the Mayor of Dagdan, now controlled by a player logging into him somehow.

I don't know, seems like I would love to IMM to be more of an RP-driven IMM as I'd have no desire to write areas or administrate. And sadly, well constructed roles that allow for a focus on RP often don't live to age-death or sadly only affect certain characters/cabals/etc.

I think that you can already accomplish everything you want to do just by playing a mort. It doesn't require you to be an IMM to be an immersive character for others to RP with.

I understand your point though. Was just wondering, as I feel a lot of good could be done by increasing the amount of RP involved.

Some of my favorite moments on CF are when an Imm will jump into a mob and interact with a mortal. I remember I still haunt an old area because Muuloc came down after Iggy pk'd me with my first character and used a shopkeep in the area to talk to my character (and eventually, titled me).
