#52898, "PSA on Playing with Friends"

A recent question on the CF Facebook page prompts me to remind our players that you are welcome to invite friends to play CF with you. There are no rules against playing with your friends (or inviting friends to play CF); the rule is that you cannot play exclusively with your friends.

From HELP RULES:

* If you know another player OOC, treat their character as you would any other. This disallows having multiple characters 'attached at the hip'. See PERMAGROUP.
From HELP PERMAGROUP:
A 'permagroup' is defined as two or more characters who rarely do anything without the other. In essence, if you very rarely adventure without a particular person, you are part of a permagroup... Ask yourself if you are exploiting your connection to the other character(s) to gain an unfair advantage over another player. This
can be a difficult determination to make, but fairness to other players will be at the heart of the staff's decision, so weigh it carefully.

If you invite a friend to play CF, use good judgment. Having your level 30 paladin load up your friend's level 8 necromancer is going to get you both busted. Joining up with three OOC buddies every Thursday at 2pm to PK everyone in sight is going to get you all busted. But if you invite a new player to try out CF and your two lowbie elves are exploring Silverwood together, that's fine. If you and your friend want to play against each other in opposing cabals, that's fine. If you play with a friend and mix it up with other players, that's fine.

Most of us learned about CF from other players, so I would encourage that to still take place today.

I ran across a newbie perma recently, where the two were clearly hip-attached. Wondering if you give leeway when they are so obviously new and trying the game together? Hoping so as the nature of the rule is fairly subjective to begin with.
