#52459, "Proposition..."
|
What with all the "change one thing about CF" etc posts, as well as the Daevryn post asking about useless skills/helpfiles/etc I would like to propose something.
One of the things I've always felt was lacking were in fact: helpfiles.
I cannot count the times I've titled a post with "Question for Daev" etc.
On to my proposition, being employed in a technical career I know that 'documentation' sucks, and nobody likes to do it. Help files are nothing more than documentation. I propose that you guys (IMM's) allow us players to chip in with writing helpfiles.
On this board right now, I have a question asking Daevryn to clarify the subtleties regarding the dagger spec skill hurl. Now, he will answer them (because he said he would)...but...the helpfile won't change, and a few months down the road people will remember THAT he answered, but some of the answer will get lost in translation and you will have 20 different versions of the 'truth'. And quite honestly, I myself will likely forget a thing or two about his answer.
When Daev does answer the question, I myself would be 100% willing to re-write the hurl helpfile to reflect whatever information he gives me. I would also be willing to submit this updated help-file back to the IMM's of CF for them to update (after some approval process).
Frankly, I'd much rather just type 'help hurl' 6 months from now than go on a forum search frenzy looking for what will surely at that point be a buried gameplay post.
I also think that helpfiles that present more information vs less will help a lot with the 'learning curve'. And, likely ease some of the arguing over mechanics by parties who aren't TRULY in the know themselves
what do you guys think?

I am going to try to get in the habit of updating the helpfiles and then saying "see the helpfile" to answer questions, when I can. Occasionally you do get CF questions answered from my phone and I'm not quite masochistic enough to try to edit helpfiles via it yet.

I would have sworn hurl shoulder hurt bash, but guess it was pure confirmation bias...
Any chance of getting a helpfile for each classes skills/spells and levels? Sort of like the website has (though it's a bit out of date) but accessible in game and automagic (so if say, orcs get skulk that is updated to the helpfile through the code).
We're good with like special paths (specs, adapts, etc), but base class skills aren't accessible in game, which can be frustrating when you want to know if that person you are about to bash has evade yet or something like that.

Just put it in a wiki with real revision capability with submissions that need review.
