An idea partially inspired by Game of the Thrones.
An accomplished character, with support from the immortals, can set up a House of his/her own. Members of the House must fulfill the following conditions.
1. Be of the same race as the Founder of House. 2. Have the same lastname. 3. Have the same hometown (cannot be changed). 4. Any other restrictions as determined by the Founder, e.g. alignment, non-mage classes.
Only level 1 characters can join a House. Acceptance into a House is automatic (like birth). The title of the character will be reflect his House. e.g. Bran of Stark. Joining a House offers 2 advantages.
1. The House's network of friends/supporters and reputation. 2. 'Free' general or race-specific edge(s), e.g. Courageous.
It also has some disadvantages. 1. The House's enemies and reputation. 2. Knowledge of the hometown by enemies. 3. Flaws (if any).
Therefore, the House's edge should be something roughly balanced against the disadvantages.
The Master/Mistress of the House has the following privileges. 1. Choose the successor 2. Stronger version of the House's edge(s). 3. Disown any member of the House. Disowned member will lose all House edges and suffer permanent morale loss. 4. Holds the title of Master of House .
And the following responsibilities. 1. Maintain or increase the reputation of the House. If a House falls into disrepute, immortals may remove the House's edge or destroy the House totally. 2. Maintain records of the House's exploits and history. 3. Survival of the House, see below.
A Master/Mistress will only be replaced upon death or deletion. If no replacement is specified by the deceased Master/Mistress, then some House's specific mechanism will be used. E.g. Choice by immortal, voting or combat.
A House will die off if there are no active characters in the House. Once a House dies off, it cannot be revived.
To prevent OOC influences, players are NOT allowed to have more than 1 active characters per House.
