Ok I don't want to look like I'm whining but... Thu Aug 23 15:27:26 2012 by 'An Immortal' at level 16 (15 hrs): An Immortal added 500 exp for: Telling on a bot
I don't see how this is ever justified...

And secondly it just isn't something that should give a chat an edge over another because it is essentially ooc.
For example, if I exposed a cheat ring, would you for a second consider rewarding my char? I'm guessing not (and I'd agree with that).
That said, it's only 500 exp. not exactly a quest form.

Not sure why you have to ask this. Consistency as the guy below has pointed out. And this is something purely ooc that shouldn't impact a character, even if it's just 500immxp. It also just makes the character even less credible because it seems like someone is taking the lamest excuse to buff up the character with immxp.
Not sure what immxp does, but I do know it gives edges. And I do know it is a recognition that your character is a good one. And I don't think this makes your character any better. You're free to disagree. I just want to know whether reporting people is a basis for giving immxp. Because I do it all the time, including reporting lame names, but I've never gotten any IC recognition. Only an OOC 'we're working on it, thanks'.

With the disclaimer that I have no idea who you are or what you've reported...
I have been known to give XP for people who correctly point out actual cheating (especially if it doesn't benefit them or would benefit them for it to NOT be caught), are especially helpful on newbie channel, or who in general work to make the game a better place.
I assume other people have a similar logic.
I don't think I've ever given any out for reporting a bad name. 90% of the time it's a name that bothers that player but I poll a handful of imms and no one is bothered by it.

Oh ok. Sorry. Seems my conception of immxp is misguided.

Well, not completely -- probably 99% of it goes out for non-OOC in-game stuff. So your conception of it isn't wrong, I just reserve the right to reward the one guy really trying to be helpful on newbie channel and giving good answers on a night when everyone else is ignoring it or being a jerk (for example).
