#48365, "Spell Practice and Becoming"
|
It is theorized that your spell %s affect your chance of successfully Becoming. Is this true? If so, is it only necro only spells? I imagine infravision wouldn't affect it.

I have thought about it and I currently have two possibilities in mind. In February, when I theoretically will have a life again, you'll see the proper, fully available introduction of Wights into the Necromancer's options for Becoming. The Wight is designed for those players who don't spend 600 hours on a character, who don't want to risk permanent death, but still want to hero a Necro.
(Hopefully this doesn't paste as badly as it looks in the preview...)
WIGHT The origins of the dread Barrow-wight (or simply Wight) are unknown to the world of the living. They are thought to be the animate corpses of the cursed or wicked who, though laid to rest in cairns or other above-ground structures, have regained the ability to walk and haunt their barrows. The Wight is no mere Zombie, for the creature has a malevolent will of its own, seeking to destroy the living out of hatred for their own corruption.
Pale and unkempt, the Wight does not thrive in sunlight but rather in the darkness of underground or enclosed graves. The Wight's claws are a deadly natural weapon, and its biting attack is known to cause infectious wounds. Unlike the crimson light that burns within the eye sockets of the Lich or the Mummy, the Wight retains eyes of flesh that have lost all color. The beast does not need them to see--just as it does not need to breathe or eat or sleep. Though it never hungers, a Wight can reconstitute its physical body through gnawing on bones.
It is said that some Necromancers have crossed over into unlife in this form, having circumvented the mortal risks of the Becoming for a heartier, more savage existence. All notion of civilized behavior, buying or selling, or value of life is foreign to the mind of a Wight.

I love the necro class and have had a ton of fun with them but one thing that keeps me from playing more is the process of becoming, be it lich or mummy. If I understand correctly, this will circumvent that process and allow necro players an alternative? ----------------- "My view of Borkahd IC" If you anger him, he'll rape you to death, eat your flesh, and sew your skin into his clothing. And if you're very, very lucky, he'll do it in that order. ~Twist

meaning, can i go for a lich quest, but if it's too hard, just become a wight? or at some point will a character make a choice and go down that path, success or not?

Does infravision affect it? Cause I don't think dark elves can practice it.

In an offhanded way. you should be a SKILLED NECROMANCER. Meaning necromancy, turning things that were once not alive to being alive, spells that do what was described. Unless infravision somehow changed and makes it so your eyes are now alive where they once were not. Then no. You can keep the spoon. I've got a single #### to give...and it's just for you.
