#45723, "Next topic: Stop Interviewing me if you aren't a leader."
Edited on Sat 09-Jun-12 04:31 PM
|
Why not just spend some time with me rather than ticking off a list of questions knowing you are going to #### all over my answers to.
You: why do you want to join Fortress
Me: To fight evil and become a paragon of righteousness that inspires all Therans to rise up and treat all with dignity and respect. May the day come when no blood is ever shed in anger.
You: you dont seem to have thought this through come think about my question and well talk again
Me: What?
You: i don't know what paragon means but it sounds selfish and thats not what we are about
Me: Allow me to explain?
You: please do
Me: When I say Paragon, I am saying by setting high standards of conduct for myself that allows me to be an example for others to follow.
You: what kind of an example
Me: ... A good example.
You: what do you mean by good
Me: Appropriate.
You: who determines if it is appropriate
Me: Are you a Nexun?
You: i wish...I mean no
Me: Leader I withdraw my pledge and I am going to go take the Oath.
Leader: But you are a Paladin.
Me: Not any more.
Me: Shieldbash You

1. Interviewing pledges is a great (and organic) way to signal to the imms that you, the interviewer, would like to be leader someday. If the interviewer does his or her job well (to the cabal imm's eye) it's pretty much a fast track.
2. More importantly, there is a wonderful RP reason for anyone in a cabal to want to know about potentials: "Um, this guy is going to have to rescue me from a bash spec someday. And RP at me afterwards."
PS: Funny, and true, parody. I think you're just more angry with bad interviews than the process.

Stick it out long enough and play well enough to get a leader spot. Leaders get to choose how inducts are handled. I've had a couple fort leaders, both did it a little differently IIRC. Requiring 1 recommendation vs 2 recs.... I've inducted people with 0 recs before and almost no interview. I've been Imm Inducted when no leaders were around, I've been inducted only on a leaders interview... It varies all the time. I can tell you I very much liked it as a leader making the other members of the cabal do the interview process pre-work because then by the time they got to me, it was easy sauce.
It's all the player who's the leader at the times discretion.

Don't expect everyone to conform to _your_ expectations. If you don't want to interact with people in a cabal, you probably shouldn't apply.

I generally don't play cabals. They suck and are too restrictive to roleplay. Play uncabaled with the cool kids.

One of the main perks of being a leader is that the non-leaders of the cabal do the lion's share of the interviews. It's up to them to weed out the unsuitable.
Being a leader means that you don't have to hear five hundred "mages drowned my father" stories. You only have to hear the ones that are compelling enough to get a recommendation.

Them: Here have a seat, take off your breastplate, make yourself comfortable. Tea? Scones?
You: No thank you.
Them: Now then it says here you want to be a Battle rager. Have you killed any mages?
You: No Sir.
Them: That won't do. Have you ever used magic?
You: Once. But I was in the Academy.
Them: *Chuckles* Youthful indescretion. I actually got my first kill after a fellow Russian Transmuter cast detect invisible on me. *wink*
You: This is is a test. I know better than that. You aren't a Russian.
Them: *frowning* What makes you say that?
You: You are punctuating.

If this is what you're experiencing we're having two vastly different experiences.
Just to confirm, you're connecting to: 66.85.154.235 port 4449, right?
You see a skull made out of letters and it says "By what name do you wish to be mourned?"
Is that what you're doing and seeing?

Pro approaches RP conversations the same way he does a knife fight. Always going for the kill shot.
It is a lot like funnyone of 3 months ago being upset at people crapping on his chars, the way you interact with people will play a big role in how they interact back at you.
Pro is getting ####ty interactions because he sets the stage for ####ty interactions.

Many leaders don't want to interview every applicant extensively of course, hearing the same things 100 times can get somewhat monotonous, so they have their members do it which A. gets all the cabal involved in membership selections B. eases the more administrative duldrums of being a leader C. creates more dynamic RP for more of the playerbase
