#45201, "Just a Thought - MUD Assimilation (Borg Style)"

I just had an odd thought while reminiscing about some old muds I used to play. Now CF is infinitely more fun with more players. Getting new players is always difficult especially in these times where instant gratification is present in graphical type games. Then again reading also seems to be in fashion.

Anyways, random idea, but idea nonetheless. Has there ever been a thought of forming a partnership with another MUD? Specifically a MUD that was somewhat different? My thought was to have the staff from each MUD talk and see if elements from each game could be transposed into the other until they were dynamically similar and then slowly merge the two so the population base could be doubled and gain pretty ardent MUDders who are looking to spark their interest again.

I haven't played CF in some time. Last character was Shaidin I think, but one day when I have a bit more time, I think coming back to CF would be awesome and having a 1990's playerbase would make that even more amazing.

I haven't played any MUD besides CF in a long, long time, but my vote would go to a MUD called Lost Souls because I know the coding is incredibly done there and I saw that their Zulg type person (Chaos) is still around. It's been 10+ years since I've logged on, but if it's anything like it used to be I'm sure it's still got some cool stuff, just not sure of the playerbase. Anyways, the idea can apply to any MUD and not just one I guess.

Just a thought. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

... Because it would change CF, quite a bit. And would take a lot of work, rebalancing etc. And it will most likely drive players away from BOTH muds.

Sorry to shoot you down, it's an idea, but not one I see CF gaining from.

Always shoot first and then call whatever you hit the target.

..you obviously would only take ideas a couple at a time and slowly incorporate them. Of course if they didn't look feasible you wouldn't do so, but after a year of incorporating a few changes here and there, you would merge the playerbases a bit more fluidly and get new blood into each game.

I know you've been playing CF for quite some time and have probably seen the playerbase in the crazy high numbers. What would you say would work if not this to start improving the playerbase numbers? I love people like Jerrokrar because even though they have a chip on their shoulder, they're learning and are actually passionate about the game. We need more infusions of new blood, but it seems rarer and rarer these days.

Adding areas and new skills, spells, races, etc. is great for the game, but it doesn't really do anything to add to the playerbase. I'm not against it, but having so many options might make it a bit more foreboding for anyone to tackle the game. I'd love to see an "easy" button where people can just choose race/class and get everything pre-decided for them including edges based on their choice of cabal. Hell, I would choose that haha.

I keep finding newbies every week. I aid them and show them around.

I've got a single #### to give...and it's just for you.

..so is the playerbase moving in a positive direction overall? Like I said I haven't been back with the game in quite some time, but from what I've heard it looks like the playerbase was heading a bit south.

The atoms are constantly changing, throughout our lives. Think of all that dandruff that used to be part of you.

And God came to Robdarken and spake these words: "Thou shalt not troll."
