#44719, "Looking for a Guild Idea"
|
I need a fun idea for a thieves guild for neo Arial City.
It should be anything BUT a binder guild.
It needs to be for the rich section of town. It's posh, snooty, and occasionally eccentric.
What would you guys like to see that fits this theme?
Thanks!

Pickpockets combo guild
Wouldn't the posh and snooty part of town be a attractive gem for the cutpurses and pickpockets of Thera? Perhaps a combo of a pickpockets guild and one of the lesser two guilds like locksmiths or arcanes. If you wanted to stick in a gambling den somewhere make it so if you step west there is a guildguard blocking you. North would take you to the den (for a small fee, like bribing a Bouncer) and then south would lead you to which ever guild you find fitting.

high end items only (use the legendary awareness code so only the good stuff can be auctioned)
maybe leverage some of the bounty code so daily notes go out with current item and bid

I dont know how hard it would be but...
Pawn Shop - Place where characters can place their items in exchange for quick gold (maybe make the healer in town if there is one no barter), if they don't reclaim it a real life 24 hour period, it's gone.
Maybe there could be mobs, 1 in each city : Galadon and Hamsah, that only buy items from thieves, those items would then appear in this shop.
Not sure how realistic it is.

Since Arials are short-lived - perhaps some of them resort to attempting to escape the knowledge of their impending doom via drug abuse. This would encourage a market for drugs - along side which poisons could be sold to guildmasters.
They also have a penchant for being chaotic and leaving things to chance - so a gambling den would be profitable as well. So my thought would be perhaps the guild connects the two venues; one being an apothecary shop (with an opium den in the back) and the other being a bar and gambling establishment. Secret entrances from both lead to the thieves guild - wealth from the upper classes fuel the enterprise. Splntrd

I think Texas Hold'em in CF would be hilarious.
"Crap...I lost" - An Immortal "Full house, I win. Hand it over Fluffy!" - Imperial "I won't pay out to you imperial scum!" - Maran "*sigh* Call in the guards, everyone here pays." - Casino owner "BOSS WANT MOAR BASH!?" - Krunk

Perfect place for Hidden bodyguards of the rich and famous, Like hired "Thugs". Because who is really best to defend a snooty noble/wealthy person than one who is hidden and arguably the most suited for combat out of all the thieves. I could see them as a front for a mercenary/bodyguard service.
Could also be really nice for City ties. I think they would fit right in as the best suited to relieve the really rich of their "Hard Earned" coinage. I could see these guys as brokers for the antiquities or high end goods to be bought and sold, kinda like free market theft in place of enterprise.
I don't think a place full of smelly ingredients or a guild prone to building things that hurt a dumb rich person who is walking by would be prime choices.
But then again this all depends on the actual location and what you're thinking of making the guild look like. Good luck to you for whatever you choose.

Throughout history posh, snooty people have always been more likely to poison each-other than to go around beating in heads with shovels.*
It seems to me that eccentric, uppity Arials cut from a certain cloth would find anything less than a discrete application of poison to be terribly gauche, wouldn't you say?
*Not based on any actual history.

Warning: Mature idea only (not sure if it would conflict with the playerbase or not)
I would really like to see some interactive organized crime. A place not only where a thieves guild is (who may very well run the operation), but a place where Therans can go to experience some form of brothel (people talk about it enough IC anyways). Some sort of "club" or warehouse where there are crime bosses. Some gambling options. A fully stocked alcohol bar, and some questionable drug (pill, potion, etc) options that may give some benefits, but not without some drawbacks. A place to buy npc prostitutes (or ladies of the night, as I prefer) of various races. A place to get some various seedy quests (like exposing a dirty secret of the governor, which keeps the authorities at bay). People should go to this upscale place and leave feeling guilty of something.
Something like this could probably work with about 8-10 rooms and maybe a dozen or so mobs (exluding purchasable npcs). Could offer a couple pieces of mage gear via alchemist or druggist (needed mage gear slots, not more robes and hats), along with some purchasable poisons (despite not being an official poisoner guild).
This would probably fit the city slicker idea best.
It should be noted that I've recently watched the entire Dexter series, and am feeling a bit of my own darkness, heh
