#43915, "Raybaer hits the sauce!"

Just a general FYI for all the various followers, cabal peeps, and other people I interact with: I'm having my tonsils out in the wee hours of the morning tomorrow. I know what you're thinking - Suck a popcicle and get back on the empowerment wagon! But, apparently it's a fairly serious surgery when you're an adult and I'll be penned in the house the next two weeks on a liquid vicodin haze. I expect I'll be around since I won't be able to drive, care for my child, or eat (three of my favorite things) so I'll need to do something to while away the hours, but vicodin and I also don't get along very well so I'm not sure how functional I'll be.

So that said! I take no blame for the drug induced craziness I might or might not inflict on people over the next two weeks! At some point after I go back to work I'm also starting a new position in the company so my daytime hours will likely change up a bit.

Surgery went well, and the pain meds they have me on have left me shockingly clear-headed. So yay on that!

Thanks for the well wishes, peeps!

Like limited races, a passing god of chaos and madness!

Regardless, good luck, ope it all goes well.

P.S. It's the 'Grzss' that's the dangerous part.

Get well soon!

In the meanwhile, you can always control drunken bar patrons and chitchat until you're feeling collected enough to go a Raybearin' again.

I kind of want to get my tonsils out. Let me know how it goes. Even though I don't technically meet the requirements for it to be non-elective surgery, my allergist "knows a guy" (ENT) who is apparently "aggressive" enough that he recommends it willy nilly.

The dr described it as pretty scary stuff when you're an adult. Basically, they take a sharp very hot thing and cut/cauterize the tonsils off, leaving a giant burn scab at the back of your throat. You can't do anything that would be considered strenuous for 10-14 days, so you have to plan to take at least 2 weeks off work. If your scab falls off prematurely and you start bleeding, it's emergency surgery to re-cauterize it. Yeowtch. You can't take anything but tylenol a full week before the surgery, nothing that might cause your blood to thin, and after the surgery you're on liquid vicodin every 3 hours strictly, including setting yourself an alarm clock at night to wake up and take your drugs.

I'll let you know if it's actually as bad as it sounds.

I just had (two of) my wisdom teeth out at age 34.

I was on percocet every four hours for almost a week and I was able to CF, though I honestly don't have a great memory of what actually went on during those days. I hope I got a few PKs.

What I was wholly unprepared for (and I didn't read the side-effects) was the (too-much-information alert) constipating effects of the painkillers. Watch out for that. Make sure to drink enough liquids.

I'm just glad we can all enjoy February 2012 as a time to suffer through things that if we had done years ago, we could have shrugged off pretty easily.

Here's to ####ty timing.

According to Wikipedia, morbidity rate of tonsillectomy is 2-4% due to post-operational bleeding while the mortality rate is 1 per 15000, so even mediocre luck should get you through the process without these complications. I wish you the good one regardless.

I had my tonsils removed when I was five years old myself. The side effect of the surgery was that I was able to pronounce the letter R correctly afterwards. I still remember some of the tongue exercises I learned from the speech therapist before that, though.

I'll be completely out of it tomorrow, but see how things go wednesday or thursday. I should be around most of today if you can catch me then. If I'm too doped up to mud, I'll have the husband post some kind of update, and he can always empower people off line for me.
