#42868, "In the vein of limited races, I have been thinking of limited class combo’s."
|
What would the opinion be if, on occasion, the game randomly picks someone in the CharGen process and randomly assigns an extra class option to one of the races. This availability wouldn’t be noticed unless the player actually chose that race and it would go away if the player didn’t complete the CharGen Process. To my way of thinking this would make available Dwarven Magi, Felar Paladins, Gnome Savages, etc. But the way I am envisioning this, I doubt we would see more than one or two of these options available for the entire player base per year. Thoughts?

In theory, these could be manually set by a high level imm and with a proper role and if requested by someone who does not have a history of cheating, I would be open to rewarding someone with, say, elf assassin or something like that. Same goes with unique home towns, etc. I hesitate to point all this out because of the floodgate it might open but! It is a possibility and I would rather see these awarded for a fantastic role than random chance.

As awesome as that sounds, I think you would be empowering the peanut gallery to bitch to no end. I'm glad to know this exists as a possibility though!
That being said, the randomness of my method would insulate the staff from the D-bags.
Neat response!

I know - yipe! But seriously, I'm talkin like 2000 xp gold style probably RC award winning role would be the only way I'd consider it. I would also do it for an RC reward if it was valid.

Read your first reply and I was thinking that my character creation was a good idea. I'm reading this second reply and thinking crap... I used to get 2000xp ever other char, now I never get over 1000

of winning a RC, most characters are probably 20+ hours and 20+ levels into the char.
Plus, you're rewarding writing skill into of roleplay and playing skill. I mean, I'm kind of ok with that, but I'm not a great role writer and would therefore never get to participate.
I like random as an option.
I also like 'applying' for a unique build via emailing the IMPs.

Even if it is rare, that you would bring something like that in to bring flavor to the mud is super cool. One of the coolest things I ever saw was the character development of the elven necromancer back in Zorszaul's day. Really made getting involved exciting.

Personally, because I'm old and crotchety, I tend to lean towards people having to earn these things in play as in the aforementioned case.
But definitely we have in the past changed things like race/class/hometown/etc. for characters that seemed to have a good story and good RP behind it.
It helps if you're not trying to get something that's also an alignment conflict. For example, I personally would let someone be a d-elf bard long before I'd let them be a d-elf paladin.
I'd also probably give out something that obviously wasn't a power combo a long time before I gave out something that was one.

Agreed on all of this, I'm way more willing to let someone run around with d-elf bard more so than, say, cloud giant sha.

I suggest not giving imm exp for role or allowing people with these special classes to enter role contests, though. They've already got a super special bonus already for writing an excellent role.
That being said, I think you should limit something like this to maybe once every six months or something.

Imm exp in general is okay, but you're already rewarded for your role.
Its also sort of a feedback system beforehand: if your role is good enough for a unique character/class combo, it also basically guarantees you high immexp and a decent chance of winning the role contests: so I feel like those two rewards for good roles should be nullified. Otherwise people might just send in a large volume of roles and be guarantee that any accepted role will be rewarded.

I know people bitch about this, but that is definetly something we take into consideration when assigning rewards, role contest prizes, etc. My silly Cardinal bard that I heroimmed got the spell "Mind malison" for a RC win. A bard who can make everyone vuln mental you say?? Not scary in my hands. Scary in my husband's hands? Hell yes.
So we do weigh these things, worry not.

A little village of gnome farmers corner the market in asparagus, but a little gnome boy is self-conscious about the way his pee smells. He gets made fun of and bullied which leads him to the AP guild to become more badass and vows to the 12 in cocytus that he will bring them souls if they'll fix his stinky pee pee.
I'd like his name to be Arty, so if you could create that for me with that 2000 exp you mentioned, that would be swelllllll.
Thank you for your time,
and you're welcome for what is truly a feast for the mind.
