#42820, "Exploration/observation experience"

I'm probably not alone in this but the exploration/observation exp seems to be either completely random or lost during reboots.

I wandered into the Underdark, walked and looked around for maybe 30-40 minutes, found and fought a few big scary things, found an abandoned altar, etc.. and got nada in terms of observation or exploration exp while just running through Calandaryl a few days ago and a few minor spots seemed to get me nearly 1000 observation/exploration exp.

I was down there during the reboot but got nothing when I finally got out and went to talk to the guild master.

So basically I'm just curious if some areas just don't give any explore/observation experience or it was just my bad luck.

Did you compare your obs/explore exp (by using score exp) pre-reboot and post?

I'm not positive but I believe that when a reboot (or crash) occurs, you get credited with the obs/explore exp (but you don't get the echoes like when you quit).

I could be horribly, horribly wrong, though.

Actually, I did scroll back through the buffer because I had wondered the same thing you did and I didn't see any difference in my experience before and after the reboot.

I did some low level wondering in some places I know for sure give points, I had to get up to handle something with the kids and when I got back i had afked out. When you go lost link (for sure), and seeing this question about crashes, you lose any points built up. I'm assuming there is some kind of hold que till you get back and discuss and if anything breaks that chain...nothing.

I did a follow up test on this and walked an area then clicked disconnect, waited a few seconds and logged back in. I had the 15second hold so i think in game it just registered as a reconnect?, but i went straight to the trainer...nothing.

just my simple "observations".

I think Twist is right, but I don't have proof.

As for your experience, were you low level or were the areas low level? My understanding of observation points are that they're designed to reward characters interacting with areas that are appropriate. Therefore, if at rank 42 you suddenly become fascinated with all the signs around the Academy or the kobold caves...you're not getting any observation points.

I know I did not go through places like Arboria and the Slave Mines but doing all the Exploration/Observation bollocks (and nearly getting myself killed) guildmasters act as if I already did it. It's especially frustrating when I can't get a certain spell because of this >

Speaking of can I get said spell from role xp or is it purely Exp/Obs? Because if it is the latter, and another one of these glitches happens for EVERYWHERE I WANT TO EXPLORE than I will probably wind up with a monitor with a hole in it....
