#42701, "Regarding: Ubuntu Mud Clients."

I apologize for posting here, but I cannot find a better place to post.
My home computer will not skull in any form or matter. It won't even let me use it as a cup holder =(

Having to wait untill my second pay check, I will have to play from this computer. Unfortunately it is linux/ubuntu. The system adminestrator said he will not install wine( a windows emulator)

If I can find a mud client that can run on this system, he will abide, santa zhulg style =)

Can someone suggest a client I can use and tell me how to install it?
I don't know how to do anything with this os. =(

I played my character four hours a day religeously and it is getting near gear purge. =(.

My first recommendation would be to use the web based client at http://www.carrionfields.com/play.php

You could also try TinTin++. There is a pre-compiled binary as well as source code, which may or may not compile without help from your system admin. If Linux scares you, I'd try the pre-compiled binary and if that doesn't work, move on. TinTin++ can be downloaded from http://tintin.sourceforge.net/download.php

Lastly, open the "Terminal" app and type: telnet carrionfields.net 4449. It'll suck, but you'll get points for style.

There might be some variation depending on Ubuntu version but it should be similar:

Click on the "Applications" menu and go down to "Ubuntu Software Center"

Type in "TinTin" into the search bar and you should come up with a list; select "classic text-based MUD client" (Underneath it should have a label called 'tintin++') and click install

When it's finished it should be registered that you have TinTin++ now. Go to your terminal and type tt++ and the program will execute

Read up on the manual and help files both online and within the tintin client (type "#help" for a list)
(Plus it will give instructions on how to make macros and aliases that will make playing the game MUCH less migraine-inducing )

When I used Ubuntu, Mudlet was, by far, the best MUD client I could find. However, setting up macros, aliases, etc. was a *little* bit tough. But if you have any programming experience, it's a cinch.
