Hargath is a giant who hails from the mountains north of Arkham. When he was young he met a knight while venturing south beyond his mountainous home. This knight offered to teach him the ways of knighthood in exchange for Hargath helping him out on his farm. Hargath accepted the offer and after working for him for a while, the knight began to become suspicious that the local magicians were meddling with his crops, for the more Hargath worked for him, the more he grew! The knight, recognizing that his size confered certain advantages, and aware that he needed to augment the cavalry force of his order, began training Hargath in the ways of a mounted knight. The only problem was that the horses had been stricken by a wasting disease by the local lich. Hargath came up with a great idea for his mentor however, he would continue jousting, maneuvering and mounted combat training without a horse. Initially the knight was skeptical, but Hargath showed him just how equine a cloud giant could be. Greatly please with his progress, but disappointed that the crops stopped enlarging Hargath, sent him on a quest to find ones to replace the now seemingly mundance harvest. Hargath agreed, and he set out on this quest. But he soon forgot what his quest was for and found it more enjoyable to hit things with sticks.

because the only thing funny about it is how sad it is that he thought it was funny.

The issue is that when you rate a character's initial role with 0 exp, they automatically get an echo saying their role is crappy. I did not know that until I rated this role and this particular player went off.
I mean, anyone can form whatever subjective opinion about this role that they want, but I could not, in all good conscience, give it 500 exp when there are countless other 500 exp that reflect much more legitimate effort and thought to character building than this one. However, although no one will convince me this role was worth any immexp, I wouldn't want to "punish" the guy with a local echo that unnecessarily hurts his feelings by telling him his role is crappy. And honestly, I had no idea how invested he was into this role until I saw his reaction first and second hand. Definitely a depressing moment for me in imm land.
So. Since then I've learned how to give 0 exp without engaging the "crappy" echo, and I've experienced much less angst ... although I'm not sure if those players can determine whether their role was rated
