#40621, "Anybody else having trouble ranking up their evils late..."
|
Anybody having trouble with advancing their evils? I don't think I've ever had a character so low in the ranks be such an old fart for this long. Seems like no matter what I do I cannot seem to get a group together. Though I am sure it's the class and restrictions of what I am able to perform as this class that makes it a bit rougher to go at it alone than most would have. Yes I also know my refusal to be come a imperial probably is a factor too, but I am still just curious if I am just in a funk or if there are more than me suffering with this unholy pain in the bum.

I decided to take a break from the previous character who spent so long in an explore area that he basically ceased to have any ties.
I played an evil instead, and that character has advanced very quickly. Admittedly I was a bit lucky that a good tank was around for a chunk of that, but plenty of the ranking was without an obvious tank.

Some bulleted personal insights on the situation:
1) (the obvious one) Player numbers have been in a gradual slide for a long time. This makes grouping harder for everybody.
2) Goodies experienced a large upswing in the last month or two, which causes two things to happen. Firstly, Goodies are on top of the food chain and generally making things difficult in a very directly way. (The same would happen if Evil was in power.) Secondly, Heroes (of either alignment) can utilize their powerbase to make things easier for their lowbies. Which makes things harder for the opposite alignment's lowbies.
3) Goodies tend to be relatively unified - Evils tend not to be. Evil on the lower end of balance + evils can't easily count on other evils = fewer people to rank with. Evils also feel the heat - so they're being competitive.
4) The pendulum always swings - I've see a lot more lowbie/midbie evils this week than last - and fewer goodies. TONS of goodie heroes though - so they'll hang on for dear life - but it's a generation destined to pass eventually. Just like strong Imperial councils. Splntrd

They seem more common than necromancers lately.

But I'd be interested to see a separate thread discussing it. Splntrd

This is even more of an issue when playing evil outlander or scion, you'll spend a LOT of time solo ranking with those characters, especially if you like making enemies.
My last scion app spent like 30+ hours at level 34, losing seven or eight con over the entire time. I gather this isn't particularly unusual for newer scion apps. Personally, I blame Wiril for it, as during this time he played ungodly hours, was extremely aggressive, and was near the peak of his power. Any group I got together generally fell apart within thirty minutes once we found him stalking us.
Not that Wiril was a griefer or anything, circumstances at that time just weren't favorable to my character at all.
That's life - not every character is set up to be successful. It does suck, but thats how it works.
EDIT: I suggest that if you aren't having any fun, you put the character into dormancy for awhile. Go do something else for a week or two and then when you come back the peekay landscape may have changed into something favoring you a little more. It probably won't get any worse, at the very least.
