#39034, "Hit the Griefers were it hurts."
|
How about a new initiative. If people can't use anti_good armor because they're evil, and vice versa, as well as neutrals, and instead of hoarding it just to be hateful, then how about they can't keep it in their inventory. I dunno, seems to be a lot of strife over gear sometimes, and corpseguarding was a semi-nice edition. But there tend to be a lot of gear lockers these days. If it falls off when they try to wear it, then why not holding it?
Thoughts?

What ever happened to having to PK someone for that limited item? Isn't that the point of limits? Sometimes you don't get the equipment you want. This idea reeks of someone who serially plays good aligned chars.

if a good align character has items your good align character wants, then tough titty, my dear. move on or wait for them to become requestable or whatever. but yes, its a different story when you're good vs. evil (with his OOC buddies) getting limited items they don't use and hoard. perhaps now you can wrap your head around the concept.

You must think this is a Man's Man's game in some sense, and that it's already been pussified in some way.
Real men must wear stoneform amulets and hold swirling black orbs. Now this #### #### got put into place and you can only use one. Damn pussies.
Things get changed for a reason. But in your terms I guess its a sex change.

Most people need to shut up, stop whining and not be such damn pussies about everything. There's a lot of whining in general about looting, ganging, hoarding and "power gaming" that is NOT a rule violation. (If someone breaks a RULE, complain.) It's not against the rules for my lich to hang on to your bal'talon. Quit whining to your buddies, the imms and me, man up, and take it back.
By the way, this doesn't just exist on CF it's everywhere in our culture. Don't expect the world to be fair, you aren't ENTITLED to anything. There's no way we'll change this attitude on CF while it runs rampant in the USA.
Edited to add: People are so conservative nowadays I don't want to be limited in my options to manipulate you into fighting me. If you want your sword, come take it.

...killing people nowadays is harder than ever. Dying left and right doesn't happen anymore, it's become a "prep or flee" fest - or your character gets to such a level that killing you can become almost impossible. The longer you play the game the harder it generally is to kill you and a lot of us have been playing for a long time.
For example:
http://forums.carrionfields.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=31&topic_id=35841&mesg_id=35859&page=
Now, I'm not saying he held gear but easily could have. 17 deaths in 900 hours. He at least fought with people when most of the time he didn't even have to if he didn't want to but I assure you that killing him was an extreme chore (especially if you want to add in things like displacement/medallion/etc). You can use any last "explore" character you want that basically hordes gear and it gets worse. Considering you can have several items to let you leave combat when you're hurt without even a single command and a crap load of super +hp gear with a/b/s (or even built-in reduction like stoneform) and it's not even hard nowadays to survive if you really don't want to die. The ease of getting mass gold also hasn't helped this making escape preps a no-brainer and special items like the orb of travel pretty much "normal".
Now, take it another step further and let's use level sitters for example. Some guy who sits out of range at their optimal level - a great current example is probably Wiril (least he's leveled some) but there have been countless of these types for a very long time over the years of CF. Lowbie hunters. I've even seen Fortress members do it, abusing Maran skills and pounce tattoes in the 30s for hundreds of hours so it's not just evils....and I've seen all of them "hold" onto gear because they can. How does it become feasible to kill them when they can easily have 1000+ hp in the 30s, can easily wipe the floor with 90% of other players and probably have some strong survival skills (hide, camo, etc). I distinctly remember seeing characters over the life of my time in CF holding things like entire sets of darkened gear or goodie proc gear or legendary things in their inventory just to "####" with whoever they hated while sitting in the 20s forever.
You can also get into the fun of playing a necro trying to lich/mummy when some level 11 is gear locking your items.
I just think that if you're holding something you can't use it should have the anti-hoarding code kick in a lot earlier.

I tend to be quite nice when it comes to leaving people their gear.
Hell, normally if I kill the guy with defiance I leave it with him, since I know it didn't help him the first time. Only if he's had it for ages and I figure another goodie should get a turn, or if he's annoyed me for some reason, will I destroy it.
That said, I did get pulled over by an imm when I played Daurwyn for NOT destroying some dude's evil gear.

Hahaha you were probably the guy who took my spear and decided I was a nice enough guy you gave it to a mob in hamsah but picked a goodie one on purpose, which I really appreciated by the way. I think it was one of those I never messed with your corpse or something and for show to the other imperials you took the spear. then told me where to find it later.

Orcs are immune. Make up some RP reason that they have overwhelming evil or some ####, but I can say that I've held a goodie item over 12 hours because I wanted something for desecrate. Maybe if they eat it? It's not like Orcs don't die enough or aren't easy enough to kill.
I wouldn't cry if this didn't go in though - and ya, gear lockers are f-ing stupid. Seeing level 30s holding hero legendary gear they can't use just to screw you is so childish and needs some heavy-handing.

So they can pick something up to desecrate, and then pick up another item when the timer is gone. Not like they need more than one item at a time, right? plus, isildurs timer idea for held items would kick in. if they hadn't desecrated it by that time, then I guess they're not actively seeking to use items for the skill
