I don't think Tribunal is very interesting because the game is too hard for criminals, especially non-hero criminals. What do I mean by this? I mean that most of the time you're going to suffer a mob-death. If things happen the way they're supposed to, you're going to get looted by a tribunal, which is... let's face it humiliating and frustrating for A LOT of people. There are too many high-level hard-hitting guards everywhere. In my opinion Udgaard guards are an oversight, because they enforce tribunal law.. Also, there are guards in the feawyn weald, which makes no sense. The cities that are protected are too-well protected and the cities which aren't protected are too-well protected.

Sure, so life sucks as a criminal. A lot of people think that's just the way it should be because they are victims of the status quo. But, I think that the world needs more criminals because it's too one-sided. People are smart about this game and will choose the easiest path. Example of this is that every ranger loves grouping with conjurers (now that sylvan is gone), and that there are more lawful evil characters (now that empire is in), and svirfnebli are about in record numbers (now that they have stoneskin). The point is that there aren't enough successful criminals (if any) and the battle of law vs criminals is unfair towards criminals. I'm not saying you should throw in a cabal, I'm just saying that there needs to be a way to lose your (wanted flag) through strategy not death.

If you can lose your wanted flag without dying, or convincing a tribunal that you're innocent then all of us players who would like to be criminals but can't would start to commit crimes.. which would help tribunal because honest to god they look bored with their lives.

There are usually quite a few wanted people, for two reasons.

Firstly, there are a lot of wanted people below the pk range of the lowest ranked tribs. This is likely to continue to be the case whilst tribs are numerous because the cabal membership will have a lower turn-over and thus generally be of higher rank. There are a lot of hoops to jump through right now to get into tribs and this will also mean that people tend to be higher rank when admitted.

Secondly is the Nihilists, and various other trib enemies who just don't give a s*** about whether they are wanted or not. These are the guys who will quite happily attack in town even though they know there is a trib on duty. There are quite a few of these.

Regarding Udgaard guards: Udgaard has it's own system of laws. It is a highly lawful city. As a result, they don't want the kind of person who doesn't respect legal frameworks.

The guards in the Feanwyn weald make plenty of sense. Have you ever looked at what they are carrying?

There are ways to avoid getting looted by a trib. I've turned myself in on a number of occasions and not once have I lost anything.

Finally, there are some very successful crims at the moment. Voronil being one example, although I believe he did die recently and lose his flag.

I think you worry too much about the effects of losing the wanted flag. Die to a mob just after ranking, and you suffer very little. Generally though, I'd just keep the flag unless I wanted to pk in town again, in which case I'd lose it. Once you know that mobs like Udgaard guards don't like criminals you can avoid them.

I do agree with what you say about taking the easy path though. e.g. the sudden surge of evil (in practice, maybe neutral in theory) rangers who group with conjies that appear around the time of sylvan going.

Your impression of the law is a direct function of how many current tribs are active.

There have been MANY, MANY times in the past where so few tribbies were around that whole gangs of criminals would stay wanted for weeks, because they weren't stupid enough to get caught by mobs.

In short, if you want to make life easier on criminals, roll someone up and kill off some tribunals.

No need for a re-structuring of the whole system.

need a revision i think. Its pretty damn easy to get around as a criminal. Life as a criminal is hard in RL too. The problem used to be that the galadon guards were too weak and too sucky for anyone to even worry about being a criminal. I never had a problem running away from tribs, you can have a lot of fun with them.
