#3698, "Rangers and spears"
|
I've always thought of Rangers as naturals using spears, but as it stands, I believe there is most often a better choice for a non-felar Ranger to use than a spear.
From the spear-maidens of the Wheel of Time books, to real life spear throwing guerilla type fighters... It seems more natural for rangers to use weapons that are made easily in the wilds than weapons that required forging like axes and swords, so I offer a suggestion to give Rangers a little extra punch when just not in the wilds.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Let Rangers dual wield small, lightweight spears, with a shield or other weapon.
- Let Rangers serpent strike with spears.
- Allow Ambushes with spears to cause bleeding.
- Create a new skill for Rangers to do with spears, such a a 'throw spear' skill.
Just offering my insight on Rangers.. I hear a lot of talk about how limited they are.

I have mixed feelings about ranger upgrades, partially because I'm playing one now. This doesn't seem overpowered and might be fun from a flash RP angle, but I don't think it resolves the real weakness to the ranger once s/he levels past 46 or so. Now that we have the premium battlefield, we can see how much time is necessary for a hero to spend in a wilderness area after they're done ranking - it's amazingly limited. It'd be a boon just to alter the Eastern Road so that you can at once hide and camo - trees close beside the road or something like that. Anyway, I'll post more when the character is dead so I can put some unbiased perspective on it.

I thought rangers could serpentstrike with spears, at least some spears. If that's not the case it probably should be.

Let felars SS with claws? And for an extreme suggestion, let high level felar thieves backstab with claws?
