I like this as long as it only applies to things that are definitely visible and don't require any industry knowledge to observe.
Armor of thorns, bone armor, etc. seem like they'd be easily visible to the viewer. Something like invoker shields maybe notso much. If a guy's got 5 shields whirling around him, the casual, preoccupied viewer isn't likely to be able to make enough sense of what he's seeing (or know enough about what he's seeing) to make a judgment call.
