#35305, "Off line Role and possible Description editor?"
Edited on Fri 17-Sep-10 12:33 PM
|
I think this would be a nice feature.
When I'm on stakeouts is when I get the most ideas and I feel like writing the most.
When I'm on line I'd rather be playing so I tend to put off roles and role additions.
Well, that's all folks.
P.S. Maybe even notes?

And then insert it to wrap chop in Dio's. You can also use MS word and other writing programs or text editors for the job.

I was thinking of something that takes advantage of the official formater.
I do send myself emails (Not because I'm lonely) but I was imagining something more streamlined.

I was thinking of an additional option on the formatter where, after pasting and formatting the text, you hit send and it adds it to your character's Pfile.
This way when you get home, you just log on and play.
If it's something that's hard to code or whatever, fine it was just an idea.

It is put to the posts so that people know that all the information is in the subject line and don't click the post. Putting all the details in an n/t post is not a good idea.
Anyway, I'm not sure if it's doable. Essentially, what you're suggesting is a bot that logs on your character, adds the role and immediately quits. Personally, when I've tried to add more than 10 lines by copypasting, it kicks me off the server for spamming. Dunno if it works, maybe an Imm could tackle this suggestion?

That's the sort of response I was hoping for. I wasn't thinking it logged on a character, just updated his pfile.

He comprehends the work, risk, and pure time involved in this sort of project.
Prothero, Notepad has been 20+ years in the making. Enjoy it.
Let the imms work on other, more substantial projects. (Like that whitecloaks replacement area...) or shamans.. or the incomplete paladins or 9000 other things.
I'm not trying to come off as a #### here man, but think about time vs outcome when it comes to mud additions.
Sure it'd be neat. But so would all those other things, and they will all take less effort than what you are talking about.

I don't think you understand what the #### I was posting.
I simply threw an idea out there and it's turned into a ####ing flame fest.
I didn't even really think it was a great idea, just an idea that I thought would be a neat perk of CF.
I get note pad for #### sake Who in the #### doesn't?

To verify it's really you who logs in. This involves inputting character name and password, as that is the only way to verify it is your character. You don't want just anyone to update whatever to your role, do you? I think that logging in to the game and using the existing mechanism to update the role is the simplest thing. I'm not sure what Imms feel about such bots, though. It's not like a one second login affects your online time at all.

Why would you be a prick like this?
Was my idea so bad that you felt like now was the time to snipe Pro? Just because I offered up something that could possibly improve ones gamming experience?
It just came to me after signing up for the tweets that some things could be done off line so that online time was better spent.

I'm not so sure, there's many posts where people say they just don't have time to play.
Anything that could make the game more time efficient would be worth it.
If it brought back an average of one extra player per day, that's a greater than 2 percent increase and to me that's worth it.

Notepad and other writing programs work offline. You don't need to log in your character to use them. Furthermore, it is possible to format your role/desc within a minute by using official/dioxide's desc formatter tool.
What really takes the time and effort is the writing of the role/desc itself. Is your program going to do that for me? Some kind of semi-automated description creator that writes a good base desc based on what your character looks like? If you're doing it manually, notepad+formatter is a good quick way for writing your desc offline.
>If it brought back an average of one extra player per day, >that's a greater than 2 percent increase and to me that's >worth it.
I don't think that your program would decrease tedium at all. I don't see it bringing back any people.

I've been using computers since the Commadore 64. I know how to cut and paste.
I'm just talking about a small something that is more convinient than my typing up something at work, saving it to disk or an email, then messing with it when I get home.
You're acting like I suggested they rebuild the code.
For #### sake.

Seriously, you haven't told any details concerning your idea that notepad.exe doesn't fill. You should stop assuming that your one-liners are automatically understood the way you want them to be. Whatever thought process is behind them isn't conveyed through the one-liner. The fact remains that you haven't presented anything implementable, just some vague need that would need the actual thought process for an implementable idea as well.
