But couldn't find a way that I'd think could be used in order to figure out the poster. I didn't try pressing alert and IP buttons in the post, so I don't know if they can be somehow turned into a way to figure out the poster. The link didn't contain user ID or anything that would make me think that it could be abused somehow.

It's a simple hack that normal folks will only see the last date it was edited, while forum moderators will see who actually did the editing. So long, and thanks for all the fish!
