#31869, "Orcs and Raiding."

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if there were any plans to get Orcs more involved in the cabal wars, and had some ideas of my own. I'm sure you've no doubt thought of them before, but I was wondering why you hadn't implemented any of them.

I ask this because being an Orc is really rather boring, you lose all the interesting cabal dynamics and miss out on most of the Cabal wars.

First of all, just make it another cabal. Give them powers they can gain and lose like everyone else. This would encourage others to raid them, but not really give them any motivation to raid others.

Another idea I had was give them one average power that they can lose, then give them the ability to "steal" minor powers from every other cabal. For example, if the Orcs hold the ebony sceptre all Orcs get the power "nightfist", if high enough level. If the codex, they all get "blade of the codex", etc. This would encourage Orcs using more Orcish motivation to raid others.

Finally, this idea is a bit extreme, but I figure I'd throw it out anyway. Expand the Village. Make new races such as goblins, hobgoblins and rare trolls (like Minotaurs). Then either add new classes that only Village races can become, a Berserker variant of a caster class and a Berserker variant of a Rogue class, or just add a ton of new adepts (or even minor/major adepts) that really allow unique character design.

Obviously the Village would have to be redesigned a bit. There are never enough Orcs around to defend against lowbies, and Tremblefist can't hold off heros.

Just some ideas to think about.

Cheers.

I would most likely continue on the spirit of what Valg's doing.

To expand, what I'm saying is that IMHO, a high level (40+) orc should A) get a little dam reduction ala thick skin (think Valg already did this, but haven't checked it out yet) B) Make skills such as berserk/warcry have an even greater boost (like level +10 instead of just level) C) If Tremblefist holds an item, all orcs get a boost to their skills working and a hefty + morale as well as maybe some interesting things like:

If has Empire item, gains prot v order (Echo would be something along the lines of 'As you hand Tremblefist the Imperial Codex, a wave of chaotic energy swirls around you protecting you from the orderly...the rest would follow in the same vein).
If has Scion item, gains resist magic.
If has Battle item, gains resist physical/weapons.
If has Outlander item, gains prot v chaos.
If has Fort item, gains resist positive.
If has Tribunal item, mobs that would auto-attack WANTED chars would not attack the orc (Echo would look something like this when you run into said mobs: "As you approach a trail sentry, a slight tremor runs through his body as he fails to sound the alarm due to your terrible presence" or something like that).
If has Nexus item, gets an improved gank code (IE if they gang people they are not affected by anti-gank code, if they are solo anti-gank code fires like a ####er).

IE, if they take the Codex, they get protection V. chaos. The Codex hates chaos, therefore whatever mechanism "grants" orcs a power when they down an item would probably go that route. Protection V evil for the Orb, etc, etc.

Also, to continue on the Empire example, if Empire is already weak enough that the Orcs can take and down their item, why is it that orcs then get a boost to fighting off the retrieval? Doesn't the fact that they've taken the Codex already mean they're winning? Give them a boost, sure, but it doesn't have to be a boost that kicks the people already down.

Twice I believe regarding cabal concepts as well as the idea of getting some sort of boost if they hold an item, and one is still on Grobbak's somewhere.

First time I asked it was shot down because they said it wasn't meant to be a "real" cabal, and the second time Grobbak I think said it would be considered. Who knows, though. I agree with you on always missing out on cabal wars.

Bleh one the second part. Not enough players, and I'd rather have the imms spend their valuable time revamping orcs rather than expanding the village. Quality over quantity, yo.

god knows orcs need something

I love the idea of them getting a power when they take an item.

Merge the orcs with the ragers. Orcs have every right to hate magic, and even evil gods, for twisting them from the elves that they once were.

Crizazy!
