#29860, "Felar Savage/Beastmaster is what I am thinking. Questions for you all"

Questions would be,
1. Do savages need clothing, or are they just stronger the more warpaint they have on their body? Seems kind of odd, but I might be wrong, but to be completely naked as a savage with only warpaint showing. Less clothing = stronger savage?
2. Savages using spears? Says predator stance uses both fists. Does that mean that I should get rid of my spear? Isn't the ranger spear very strong, so getting rid of it to go into a predator stance really worth it?
3. Was told beastmaster is really boring, but the idea of trying to tame beasts might be kind of interesting. Do the beasts only help you when you fight someone, or do they follow you around all the time while in the woods? Meaning, if im not fighting someone, can I call a beast?
4. Savage is suppose to be very strong, and it seems a felar gets a little boost from being a savage, would something else work better with savage than a beastmaster?
I'm just going on the limited help files I can read here.

1) Savages don 't *need* clothing but it can be beneficial, particularly for saves and +hp, +str and +dex. My last one didn't wear anything on the body, legs or arms after 30ish and had a 54/38 hit/dam roll at the end with very modest equipment. Just remember NO metal.
2) Spears/staff are very good, predator's stance is a great surprise for someone who disarms you. But it's only on Beastmaster, not savages. For savage, keep daggers around for brutal rush.
3) It's just that the Beastmaster skills tend to come a lot later than the others. You can only call a bear that will follow you around, the others are fights only. You can tame wild things but only the really low level ones (relatively) will have a chance to follow you.
4) You're confusing specialization/terrain. You can only be a savage OR a beastmaster (or something else). The terrain is the one that gets layered ontop of the specialty.

My opinion, 95% of the time as a savage, you want a full set of gear. Wearing less to strengthen warpaint and smear mud is a very situational thing.

It depends on what you're fighting. Probably your default choice should be to use the spear. Going from ranger spear to using predator's stance means giving up all hope of parrying or defensive spinning incoming attacks for better offense from your claws. Sometimes that's a good trade, often it isn't.

Generally speaking, I preferred staff to spear. But that aside:
At medium levels, you can make spears and staffs that will heal you. Normally you can dodge and parry well enough that this will keep you close to full health when fighting mobs (and sometimes against players). So it's useful for that reason.
Predators stance doesn't allow you to parry, but once you have wilderness familiarity you'll dodge really well so that won't be a major issue unless you are fighting a drawn out fight against someone that is able to land hits on you. However, predators stance does pour out a lot of damage very quickly. If you aren't the one taking the blows, it's pretty good. If you are, it's still pretty good.
You might find alternating between the two works quite well.
