#29398, "Question for the Immortals"

I can think of a handful of things in the game that require Immortal XP.

After reading some of the stuff here about policing characters, enforcing respectable behavior, etc., I got to thinking about how Immortal-given XP affects certain (small) elements of the game, and what would happen if it were more important.

Obviously priest classes and characters who actively engage in a religion tend to have significantly higher amounts of Imm-XP because they subject themselves to more snooping and are constantly seeking out their patron Imm for interviews, talks, etc. That said, just about every character with any role at all seems to get something for it in a fairly timely fashion.

So my question is this: Would making more aspects of the game based on Imm-XP work at all, and would it be positive?

For example, a certain amount of Imm-XP might be required to be inducted into a cabal, explore certain areas, pick certain edges, etc. I'm sure the staff could come up with more ideas.

I can't think of a situation where this would fix much of the low/mid level “griefing”, but it does seem like it would encourage (or enforce) players who do intend to stick it out or who do want to accomplish things with their characters to follow the “golden rule” to some degree as a player. While Imm-XP isn't has no direct correlation to if they're a decent human being or not, it's usually a decent metric for whether you're a reasonable classy player who follows his role or not.

Likewise, it would be nice to see Imm-XP (or XP in general) taken away from people when they do stupid stuff.

What if cabal leaders had a command to give pledged characters a small amount of Imm-XP, or perhaps even to cabal members to denote that they're doing well?

I like the idea of Imm-XP (both given and taken away) having more influence on a character's potential, reputation, etc., I'm just a little fuzzy on what the best way of making it happen would be.

Thoughts?

This was in place for the silent tower and hell at one point and it is in place for certain edges. It would put an unneeded hardship on both imms and certain players.

...we're attempting to move in the opposite direction of this. Some of our playerbase just wants to "play the game" and not have to deal with pleasing Imms for certain things. Others like Imm interaction, of course, but a change like this wouldn't make those others "more happy", and it would make the former type of player quite unhappy.

That's great I guess, I just hope someone is watching the people who just want to "play the play" whether they want to be watched or not. While that's certainly a reasonable expectation on their part, that group tends to contain the majority of the characters people seem to absolutely despise based on forum chatter.

Maybe this isn't the way to address that then, I just hope there is a way.

Hypothetical Question:
An Imm is snooping an empoweree who asks someone to group. The empoweree declines, and that someone response, "well eat #### then" and promptly goes to sleep or turns on ignore.

Do you, as an Imm, simply smirk and make a mental note that the someone is a tool or do you actually address the fact that the person is likely putting forth zero effort in their role-play and is probably going to exhibit similar behaviour towards other people?

I'm wondering if you guys just don't have the numbers and time to notice all the douche-tards or if some of you are just a lot more relaxed about it than others?

Smite is your friend!

I'd probably history them with it, and leave it at that. If I saw it continually, I'd probably realm them and/or tell them to knock it off. If they didn't, probably -xp points or worse.

Depending on the egregiousness of the lack of RP, some imms might just go straight to docking xp (which isn't really THAT terrible but to see the reactions of some folks, you'd think we'd done a slay/purge).

Wow, you actually dock XP? That seems so weird to me. What kind of quantities are we talking? Why would you choose to do that over more entertaining forms of punishment, like piling on maledictions and dropping them in inconvenient places?

One of the most common comments from Immortals on the graveyard is "You did great, but our times didn't match" or "I had this big thing coming but you just deleted!" or other various things where Immortals and players don't match up. Mostly because there are a LOT more players than Immortals and nothing on the fault of the Imms but given they have real lives as well, you can't add more requirements on them.

There's a reason empowerment got boosted to twenty.

But I don't want to waste their time when I can only play 4-5 hrs a week.

So I agree with everything Twist wrote.

I play for me, not for someone else's entertainment.
I'd appreciate it if every hurdle I had to jump required only my own approval and trials, and not having to kiss someone else's ass for approval.

I got to say, I love Immteraction. Some of the best I've had is with the evil gods, and I'm a serial goodie. Couple of my issues with the situation in the heavens that I think is partly on point here:

There don't seem to be that many goodie gods who are around much any more. You might catch Padwei, as we did today, for a bit, but with Baer out of pocket much now(I think she's having baby, but could be wrong) and with Corlaan on extended Hiatus, it comes down to a few choices for those of us who want to play an empowered character, Thror, Ysa, and maybe Yean. All Battle Imms. I could be wrong, but I would like to see more time from some good aligned imms, I'd love to play an empowered character, but haven't much because I never see them around... It's hard even during posted play times. i know they have a life, which is why I really stopped playing empowered chars.

Just my 2 cents.
