Ultimately, it is a tool to get people introduced to the game, make it a bit easier to get into the game, and keep track of some of the discussions we have on the forums in the form of FAQs.
As I mention in the wiki rules...
•Do not post spoilers (Examples but not limited to: Area explore, wand lists, prep lists, cabal character lists, quest solutions, etc.)
>Maps?
>Formulas (e.g. exp tnl)?
>Statistics (e.g. avg max hp at hero)
>Client scripts?
>Form stats/info?
I have no problem with any of this info.

I'm not a huge fan of item lists purely for the sake of having a list of items. I think it detracts from one aspect of the game (actually exploring) in favor of power-gaming PK (because really...people just want to know what's the best XYZ so I can kill you with it). Something like a "Quick & Dirty Re-equip for a warrior" I think is a good thing.
