Often I have no idea if this is mystical armor or not?
Will my mystical armor use work on it?

Perhaps you can add an echo there, when we wearing mystical armor, or give us a hint when we examine it. Because if we have such skill practiced, we must be able to say if it's what we can use well or not.

Also, I am still clueless: metal armor use works only on armor, or on metal bracers for example, or any other metal stuff.

Basically to figure out whether an armor use skill applies or not, you're looking at two things:

1) The material of the item.

2) What the type of the item is. That is, it has to be 'armor' and not 'clothing' or 'treasure' or something else.

That helps a bit, but still, can we have any echo please when wearing *right* item? Or when we examines it?

It will really help everyone, especially new players. For example, I didn't know that it have to be 'armor' and not cloth or treasure... Nor still have any idea about material.

Is isildur right, mystical armor must be made of energy? Or something else?

It says:

Raw elements (i.e. fire, water etc)
Energy

Ahh. Heh, thanks, I wasn't sure what raw elements are. Metal or steel are pretty raw materials too But now it's much easier to understand.

As I take it, leggings made of energy will not work with mystical armor use. Only armor. Though sometimes there are echo that 'blow was deflected by your leggins' or something else. Still uncertain, if mystical armor use will increase chance on deflecting blows with other things, not only with armor (torso).

Leggings can be armor just like any other worn item. If it says "armor worn on legs" when you examine it, then it's armor. If it says "clothing", it's not. Clothing won't deflect anything, armor can even if you don't have the armor use skill for that particular material.

The light armor skill includes clothing so it can deflect attacks that hit a clothing slot.

If the armor you are wearing isn't metal, dragon one, cloth, leather, bone, wood, or stone BUT IS energy, then mystical armor use comes into play.

I don't think any armor use skill relates to clothing.

Light armor use, if I understand it correctly, relates to ARMOR made from cloth (amongst other things).

Now you see why I am requesting a simple echo when you are wearing armor which you can use better than something else (i.e. you have skill in that armor).

Thanks to everyone involved, now I know much more than two days ago

If it's not armor it will tell you it can't be compared.

I've always thought the inability to compare armor and clothing should go away when you get improved compare. After all, most of the time you don't really care about AC as much as stats/etc.

Examine the item. It should say whether it is "type" armor or not. (I think. Going off memory here.)

If it is not armor, then no armor use skill will help.

If it is armor, look at the material it is made of. Check the helpfiles to do with armor use. That tells you which materials each armor use skill applies to.

From the helpfile.

Skill at Light Armor Use denotes the reflexes and training needed to wear light armor (cloth, leather, hides, and similar materials) and maximize their protective value (Armor Class). Most characters, excepting magi, can find this skill taught at their guild.

Types armor and shield, the listed materials.

I think if it's made of energy or an elemet (e.g. ice) then it's mystical. Not as sure on the elemental stuff.
