#28063, "Training Skills (Question)"
|
Would the IMMs consider putting training dummies or 'magical beasts' into guilds for practicing skills?
Something like the Ysigrath vine trick?
Maybe even to rent one for an hour. I can't see how it would detract from current system. Would give people that like seeing rows of 100's something to do in downtime. For some classes it is hard to work on battle type skills. The players that actually put in the time would get some enjoyment out of this.
And since it was stated 'by Imms' that 100's don't really mater, it would help fill some down time for chars too weak to go out and solo kill things that are of moderate strength.
Hope is the worst of evils, for it prolongs the torment of man.

Giving more mobs shields especially for goodies to practice offhand and shieldcleave on? That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.

Your skills all ready go upwards as you fight.
You can use random mobs/high hp mobs if you feel like practicing skills.
Tada.
End of discussion.

You can't really expect to put something like that in a guild in Galadon. But I don't see why you can't put it in a cursed area like the vine from Ysigrath.
I absolutely love rocking out to some good music while spamming skills/spells up. I can see a potential problem occurring if people decide to bot it because there are no enemies in PK range and they think their safe.

Or not necessarily a cursed area but maybe something that does allow for a possible PK scenario. Perhaps make the room an addition on to the arena that is in place already? I mean gladiators have to train right? Well they are not going to train live people all the time so why not dummies?
So, why not make the room available to characters around lvl 15 or higher. My thoughts on this are that the gladiator trainers of the arena are not going to let some punk come in off the street that can't set foot into the arena (just like it is set up now so that if you are under level 11, you can't participate in arena battles) or those that are 'fresh faced' from the academy (seeing as they might consider them children still) and you have your training room.
Another option, if they (the IMMS) wanted to force you to have a pre-req to even use the training dummies, is requiring the character to have to participate in several arena battles before the trainer comes up and even offers you the option to use the training room?
The room proc (or however the hell you spell it) could be something along these lines.....
*****If you loose, right after you get placed back into the foyer...*****
A grizzled old man saunters up to you after the battle, gnarled hands absently dropping coins into the oversized purse at his side.
Shaking his head he looks you over from head to toe; taking in the sight of your bloodied frame.
"Well youngin, you sure made a damn fool of yourself. You lookin for a chance to maybe fix a few problems I saw in your tactics?"
((give the character the option to say yes or no. Assuming he says yes...))
Nodding slowly you can see a small gleam come into the old mans eye.
Cracking his knuckles he moves over to stand in front of you, hands placed on his hips he stares directly into your eyes; the wisdom of a thousand battles practically oozing from his frame.
The Gladiator Drillmaster says: "Then get your ass in the training room! You think I got time for you to play about in the foyer here!? You want to mark your name on the walls of the Arena then you got to earn it!"
The Gladiator Drillmaster points to the southwest, indicating a bloodstained set of stairs from which you can hear the grunts and shouts of mock combat and training.
The Gladiator Drillmaster says: "Down there, but just remember, the arena don't own you so we aren't going to protect you if you get attacked on those training mats. Your body won't have been the first we drag up from there if you don't pay attention to what's going on around you!"
The Gladiator Drillmaster throws back his head and laughs, making his way towards the training room stairs. "Oh and if you don't have the time for training now, then get back here whenever you can! Doors always open for you!"
*****At this point you could go to the training room, or go along your merry way and come back whenever you want.*****
Obviously there would be different speech patterns then what I have here, though if the IMMS like what they see they are free to use it, and varied ones for the winners of the arena battles; but you get the idea of where it would go.
Also, as another random thought on the subject, you could make it so that the dummies were guarded by something, or someone, or some 'invisible shield', forcing you to go through that series of events to even use the dummies. (( You would, however, not be required to do all of that just to get into the room and PK or just stand around and talk. Remember we don't want to create another galadon guild thing here.))
****Maybe something like this.****
Raising your weapon back you take aim at the battered training dummy. As your swing closes, inch by inch, towards the worn wooden frame your arms begin to slow down; gaining weight and altogether stopping before your weapon manages to connect!
Your exhaustion injures you! (( -20MV or something.))
A gutteral voice amongst the training dummies: "Hey! You got a prove yourself first before you can start training here, meat! Get back up to the arena and shed some blood for us if you want the Boss's blessing!"
Just my take on what I would do if I were given control over the situation. That is if it even gets implemented, which I know is a long shot since its a lot of coding.
Still, I think it's cool.
Thoughts? News flash, everybody on this ####ing MUD wants to be Rambo. We should have called it RamboMUD. ~Daevryn~
