#27345, "Fires of Adversity"
|
Ok, I have been reading through legacies and looked through a bunch PBF's and had a question about this legacy...
Fires of Adversity. The helpfile sounds cool. The idea behind it sounds cool. But no one seems to be taking it, or they bash it when they do.
What exactly does this legacy do? And is there a way that you can notice when, whatever it does, is happening? For me, the helpfile was just a bit too vague about what it really does and from what I am hearing on the 'other' board, it may have been nerfed at some point.
Is this true? And can anyone give me any 'nut's and bolts' info as to what to expect from this legacy?
Thanks! News flash, everybody on this ####ing MUD wants to be Rambo. We should have called it RamboMUD. ~Daevryn~

I don't think Fires has been adjusted in a long time, if ever. Maybe in the first few months of legacies being live but I'm pretty sure never since.
Fires works on a sliding scale and helps you parry and dodge more as your hit points go down. If you're wounded at all, it does something but possibly not much. It takes a decent leap in effectiveness somewhere around 'writhing' territory.
Generally I think it looks good for a lot of the same kinds of concepts/builds that Ward or Dance looks good for, depending on your play style. If you're a person who is regularly still trying to win PKs at low hp%, it's probably pretty good for you. If you're the kind of person who plans to get out of there before you hit that point, probably you should be picking something else.

Ok, that makes sense.
Last question. Has there ever been a thought to maybe put some sort of echo on it so that you know when you start to gain the benefit?
Example of this maybe like:::
Just starting to be wounded... As your wounds begin to take a toll you feel your meditations with the fires of adversity start to take hold.
Really wounded.... Ignoring your injuries you focus deeper on the Fires of Adversity; snarling as your blood begins to boil and your arms are renewed with newfound strength!
Etc.
Just a thought, since those that do take it may not be sure exactly when they would be gaining the benefit.

That feels unnecessary and spammy to me, to be honest.
If your hit points are less than 100%, it's doing something.

... Does it aid defense only. Or both offense and defence?
When I played Zefta (Which was a very stupid build to use it on) I had a few fights there I stayed waaay longer than I should and it FELT as if it aided BOTH defense and offense. At some point someone told me that it was just defense.
Just wanted it clarified if possible? Thank you all mighty Nep! Always shoot first and then call whatever you hit the target.

Defense only, as far as I know, and I wrote the original code for it.
