#25841, "Anyone else feel 1-22 for conjurers is a little mean?"

I was thinking of rolling a conjurer, but it looks a bit rough until they get their first conjurations.

Does anyone else feel they don't have much to offer until then?

Imms, do you think they could get a little boost ala partial shifts like Shapeshifters did?

Thanks,

Once you are past 17, they become rankable at a decent rate solo.

Before that, you have quests, and places where the mobs are just wimpy (e.g. Ysigrath).

To be frank, since a new area went in, no mage really has it hard. I know I ranked up with mage only groups and it was pretty quick.

Warp dimension is also a pretty handy spell (although right now I'm not looking at the skill list), but I think it comes early.

Yeah, but so do shifters because they have their form first form by this time. Conjurers still only have magic missile/familiar, which is somewhat doable, but less so than grouping/offering something better to the group than magic missile/warp dimension.

Well, everyone has quests. I'm more talking about inherent ability to rank up via class skills/spells that aid a group and provide them incentive to say "Sure, why not." when considering if they want a 1-20(22) conjurer with them.

>To be frank, since a new area went in, no mage really has it

I don't know of such an area. Can you elaborate?

>Warp dimension is also a pretty handy spell (although right
>now I'm not looking at the skill list), but I think it comes

Warp dimension comes at 11, if I'm not mistaken. Magic feint isn't bad, but it's also an area spell and it costs mana. While its a little better than its warrior counter part, I'm not so sure it gives lowbie conjurers that edge I felt they needed.

All in all, I think you're saying that with doing quests and ranking in some area, it shouldn't be hard to rank up a lowbie conjurer. I agree, but I don't think they should have to rely on "external" means to level.

I wouldn't mind seeing them gain some sort of mini conjuration to hold them through until they can conjure normally.

I might be sated with spellcraft, though.

Thanks,

Easy to rank a conjie there if you look around. Very easy for a group of magi to rank.

Of course, now you've asked me this here, instead of your mage asking my mage ic, you are now going to have to contend with warriors jumping your mage. However, you should be able to beat most warriors here if you keep on your toes.

I've PKed with a conjurer pre-parry and pre-shield-block.

I could see, at some point, powering down magic missile and giving them something more conjurery to roll with in those levels, but they're not especially weak in the grand scheme of things.

(Also, if you're feeling sassy or have a plan, you can conjure at 20.)

Give conjurers some minor conjurations to use untill 20, would be more in flavour of conjurers at low levels.

How about something a little less fantastical during the 1-20 ranks...maybe some conjurations of creatures whose home is actually in the Prime Material Plane. Elementals would be the first step towards a conjurers' ascendancy to the rank of Planewalker.

Note: These work in a fashion consistent with servitors, not familiars. But, I think it would make sense if they had to actually follow the conjurer around like normal pets...gating rats would be bizarre.

Level 5:
Conjure Lesser Beast

syntax: c 'conjure lesser beast'

-Upon casting, the conjurer calls an animal, such as a dog, raccoon, monitor lizard, or flamenco into his presence from somewhere in Thera. Owing to these creature's low intelligence, they will be compelled to fight on behalf of the conjurer for the duration of the spell.

When this spell is first cast, it will determine the next, more potent, conjuration's nature.

Level 13 (One spell assigned based on first casting of 'Conjure Lesser Beast'):
Conjure Avian
Conjure Reptile
Conjure Mammal
Conjure Rodent

syntax: c 'conjure avian/reptile/mammal/rodent'

-After finding an aptitude for conjuring a creature of a particular species, it is now possible to be more selective in the choosing, thus gaining the service of a more potent minion. While the actual creature conjured by this spell can vary, the species will remain consistent.

Level 15:
Ethereal Mount

c 'ethereal mount' (direction)

-By briefly reaching into the quasi-elemental plane of Steam, the conjurer calls forth an ethereal mount to whisk him and his companions in a given direction at great speed, and with no wear on their own legs, until it can go no further.

(Basically it would "run" your whole group. Cool for big distances as a lowbie. Potentially cool later on when eastern is a danger. One thing: there is a round or two of lag when you hit the end of the direction you're going in...this is for balance. A smart enemy could make use of it.)

>I've PKed with a conjurer pre-parry and pre-shield-block.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I was leaning more towards ranking viability in those ranks. Although, I guess any boon they receive in that department would benefit them for PK.

How did you pull it off? I mean, I'm sure I've done it too over the years, but I think the class skills/spells don't really tend to much offensive power around those levels. The thought of possibly pumping out 2-3 decimates is cool, but theres a good chance they might be 2-3 scratches too.

>I could see, at some point, powering down magic missile and

Cool. I don't know if powering down magic missile is warranted, but Nep knows best.

Oh, and I completely agree that they can be quite "un-weak" in the grand scheme of things too.

> Also, if you're feeling sassy or have a plan, you can conjure
>at 20.)

True.

But I'll send you a chewy butter cookie if you move bind elemental down to 20.

Quests and the academy get me to thirteen, than it's painful ranking to 16 to get shield block & parry. Once you have that, getting a familiar isn't that hard, and usually by then, groups will at least begrudgingly have you.
