#25805, "Overthrowing the Empress"

I've been wondering lately if there was any way to overthrow the empress, I mean, she could be in that post forever, and somebody else would want it someday.

A little problem is that the Empress is far better than you. So it will be another Emperor far weaker than she, but people will be happy since its hard to see someone really competitive against you. Thats how I see it.

I don't know. If you're someone who has to fight Empire, having an amped up anti-paladin emperor with plentiful wands might be almost as bad as having a lich emperor.

I don't think he was referring to it on levels of badness. He was just pointing out that the lich wont ever age die, and certainly appears more than skilled enough to never con die.

Empire seems to be on the upswing lately, which is nice. Honestly, she'll probably have to get bored and delete before there's a new one, barring any huge screw-ups.

Yeah. I'm just saying that Ahtieli's frustration factor is somewhat mitigated by the fact that she: 1) hasn't been around that much, 2) if alone, usually has to sleep someone (who doesn't want to fight her) in order to kill them, and 3) has piercing gaze, but not detect hidden (at least not always).

If I'm a thief or assassin who's not cozy with Empire...I'm crapping my pants at the thought of a Gzurweeg emperor.

With enough save vs. spells it's possible to engage a lich and retreat without dying, even if you never had any chance to kill him. That's less true for an amped up anti-paladin.

Here's something I'd like to see:

Ahtieli gets ousted, turned Anathema, and proceeds to kill hordes of Imperials *PLUS* everybody else.

Sort of like a Nereriel on steroids.

Yeah, but there needs to be active conflict. Not like the whole Kjrorh anathema thing where he mostly did his own thing and occasionally picked off Imperials, but was never treated as public enemy #1 by the main Empire guys.

Every time Ahtieli logs on, I want all of Empire to be like, "Okay, let's go gang down Ahtieli." And Ahtieli to be like, "Okay, let's see how many of those traitorous citizens I have to destroy before they come to their senses and make me Empress again."

Sure it's possible. If you can manufacture situations where she looks weak, you can turn others in the council against her. After that, it's not that hard.

I guess it all depends on how willing you are to risk your own neck in the process and how creative/charismatic you are. Liches have been deposed from the throne before.

Well there is one HUGE problem. A vote can only be called when there is a full council.

Is that true? And the Emperor is the only one who appoints council members? That's an interesting incentive for an Emperor to never, ever have a full council.

As the simple - but profound - mantra of economics goes: People respond to incentives.
