Why couldn't a bird like animal have a physical instinct to keep flapping, albeit slower?

gets some much attention? The head post is stupid and pointless. We don't really need full realism in CF nor balance is broken in case of arials.

(Yeah, I know I know. I should just keep my mouth shut sometimes but dammit, I like to ask questions!)
Here's how I see this:
-Making players have to take more action (toggling inherent flight when resting, sleeping, etc) provides opportunities for other people to capitalize. It's a tactics thing.
-Arials, along with other dexy races, have benefited ####ing enormously from the recent'ish changes and the addition of evade. This could help to counter that.
-It just kinda makes sense. You have to toggle the stupid thing on as soon as you roll the character, and then each time you die. That's basically useless. Sure, it is semi-neato when you are facing a buffet-happy invoker, but my suggested change here doesn't hamper that option one bit.
Is this grabbing anyone?

Adding such additional toggles just makes the game more difficult and arduous. It's not fun if it makes resting and sleeping a pain in the ass for the arial player. Sure, you can just make an alias for standing up instead of using the old stand command to get around this, but I don't see why this would be more fun for anyone. I think this idea goes to the same basket with the defecate command.

I meant, an arial should not be able to sleep just below arial city, unless they have magical flight. I wouldn't have a problem with them sleeping on the land bit to either side.
From a playability pov, you either just have to sleep on the land, or you have to quaf a flight potion. But it does mean you have to take the risk of being ambushed (say).
That's a lot less of an impact than no sleeping anywhere.
I do agree with Mek about inherent flight dropping when you hit no moves though, as well.

I'm not making a big stink about it or anything, I just thought it was worth bringing up since I don't think it ever has beeen.
Since arials have the 'inherent flight' skill they could have to toggle it when they rest/sleep and when they get up they'd have to put it back up. That gives opportunities to people who might not otherwise be able to trip them up (namely, thieves.)

I think what he's suggesting is that inherent flight goes down every time you rest or sleep, and that you wake and then have to manually put it back up, in which case there would be a window of possible tripping.
However, I have these problems with that:
1) It sounds like a pain in the ass for people playing an arial and
2) It's not super realistic to me that I'm an arial, and I've GOT WINGS and could start flying at any time, something that is as natural to me as walking and doesn't require me to cast a spell or anything, but I'm just going to keep letting a thief trip me for some reason.
Granted, that's exactly what would happen if an arial lowered inherent flight, but that's a conscious choice that they're making for whatever reason.
I mean, if the thought process is that invokers really need to earthquake a sleeping arial for some reason (which then wakes them up and gets them flying again if they're in 'flight mode') maybe I could get behind that being possible, but the tripping thing I just don't see.

Is not to let them sleep in the air if they are only using inherent flight.

There could be an automatic toggle that defines rest and sleep states as being on ground, even during inherent flight. But once you stand up or are fighting, you're flying again.
