Maybe that will give me some insight on what to play. In the past I've always done well with dwarves because my dwarves are teh funny, and everyone likes funny characters that aren't stupid. But I don't wanna do a dwaft right now.

Sometimes it seems like every character in CF sees the world through badass colored glasses. Almost as if we're a bunch of insecure nerds acting out fantasies of power and celebrity on the internet or something. Here's a question, when was the last time you heard a character in CF say "I'm afraid" and not in the sense of "I'm afraid I'll have to crush you like a bug now?" The few that include a wider range of emotional responses that includes some vulnerability, be it fear, sadness, regret or self-doubt really tend to stand out.

But if you want to play a character people enjoy interacting with, I personally have always found that just being cheerful and easy-going pretty much always wins friends. There's always a few people so hell-bent on being dour and taciturn that any hint of gaiety makes them angry, but most people respond well to basic friendliness in large doses.

Someone who just doesn't understand what death means, or thinks that this world is hell and death is a release into heaven. So they hum and whistle while doing the good work of speeding souls on to a better place.

Dispassionate scholar. Likes to kill people as a means to better understand the intricacies of his craft. Curious to know what the screams of a dying elf sound like because, well...he's never heard them before.

You could have nice matter-of-fact chats with the people you kill. "So, how did it feel when I exploded your innards? Hmm. Yes. Will make note of that."

Someone who is gracious in both victory and defeat, who practices what they preach, and is willing to give the time of day to any RP opportunity will go far.

Don't be a chaotic stupid gnome, I've done plenty and even I regret those days.

Don't write your role so that you can be a multikilling, full-saccing, griefing douche (Sorry Rogue).

If you go evil, don't be the stereotypical asshole to everyone. You can be evil without being a cunt. I'm not saying to go hold hands with your cabal-mates and pick daisies either though.

Typically, good/neutral characters are easier to be a friendly guy with, but maybe try an evil that truly thinks what he does is good, even though he does some pretty terrible things (like slaughtering orphans to save Balator's economy) or something.

Sounds like you dig the dwarf RP (and possibly accent). Start browsing helpfiles for other races and pick one that might be fun to immerse yourself in. Felar/Drow/etc. There are a lot of books in the Lyceum on their history and native tongue as well, if the helpfiles come up short for you.

Hopefully some of this was insightful for you, and welcome back! I just came back a couple weeks ago myself thanks to the newsletter!
