#25541, "Wouldn't it be nice?"
|
Every now and then when I log on CF, I think to myself: "It'd be cool if CF had some music." I like that it doesn't have any graphics (even though I think it would make an amazing MMO), but music would be a real treat. If somewhere, some day, someone wrote up a mud client that was specific to CF and was integrated so that it read cues to play music when you entered an area of got in a fight, I would be a happy man.
Some examples of what I mean:
When you enter, say, the Forbidden Forest in the Past, you'd hear,

When you entered Galadon, you'd hear,

Emtering the Hamsah Desert?

You get the gist. What do you think? What music would hear and when would it play? == You get 269938 gold coins from the corpse of Valguarnera. ==

Otherwise someone would teleport blind, and the music would tell them where they died. I remember once dying on strange island and knowing where to go for my corpse because I heard the parrot just before I keeled over.

This is already feasible with CMUD, with a lot of work. There are triggers that will play audio files. Normally people rig them to bells and whistles to use as alerts if they're spamming or something. But you could attach music to it, too, if you wanted.
I've never done this so I don't know if it's possible, but here's how I imagine it would work: You'd have to find all of the entrances to the areas you want to musicify, get the names of the first rooms in the area, and write a trigger that will play the music you want to correspond that area. Equally, you'd want the names of all of the first rooms out, and plug them into a trigger that turns the music off (or plays a different track, if you're stringing two musical areas together).
