I'm terrible at this. I can run the Rager box... and yeah. I'm just at a loss for where to go after that.

For instance, if I know my mage enemy's wand locations, or I know a lot of ABS locations myself, I could try camping and spamming my opener at the entrance to the area's location... but what else? I know you can usually find people on the way to their cabals, but sitting in Balator waiting for your Imperial foe as a non-hider (and even as a hiding class with the number of duergar, even if there are no Shadows on) means they're going to come get you prepped.

If I don't find them from Feanwynn to Arkham, I don't know whether I should go start checking Elemental Temple or the Basilica. Anyone have any general tips on getting into a mindset or ways to figure out where their enemies might be besides camping at their inner guardian?

I think there's some good advice here already. A bit more:

1) It goes without saying that you need to have a passing knowledge of area to search it. If I'm in the Elemental Temple and you don't know where that is, your odds of finding me are poor. Learning where the exact boundaries between areas are is also helpful here in terms of efficiency.

2) You want to check a lot of areas in a short amount of time. Ideally this means you shouldn't spend a lot of time loafing around or resting for moves. As you're starting to learn a character with refresh or pathfinding might be helpful here -- a ranger should be able to be constantly on the move checking areas without ever really resting, for example.

When I started playing CF you could literally check every area in the game in about 10 minutes. That's no longer the case, but in (let's say) less than an hour you probably can hit most of them, as long as you don't have to stop and rest.

3) With rare exception, check all areas that are near or on the way to areas you're checking. If you think someone might be in the High Tower (maybe you've seen them with a lot of a wand you know is from there, or whatever), checking the Elemental Temple and Dragon Tower should be almost "free". So do it. A bunch of areas connect to Eastern Road; check them each as you pass down it. Etc.

Taking this a step further, sometimes you can hit a whole bunch of areas in a short amount of time and it doesn't make sense not to. Maybe you think I could be in the Keep of Ceawlin but I'm not. At that point, you probably can check every area on that continent excepting maybe Trothon in five minutes time. If you have no ideas, why not?

4) Pay attention to where you find your enemies. If you happen to stumble across me in an area, maybe I randomly teleported there. Or, maybe there's an item I frequently gather there that you don't even know about. Maybe it's one of my preferred hiding places. Generally, people will tend to be where they've been before.

5) Remember that people move. If you think there's a really good reason for me to be in Voralian City, check it any time you're even close. I might not have been there ten minutes ago, but I might be now.

6) Use your class abilities to your advantage. For example, if I'm a conjurer and think you have a good chance to be in the past and I sweep the past and I'm sure you're not there, and I park my familiar in the Void and you don't pass it... I can continue to be pretty sure that you're not in the past. Snares are good for this kind of thing too. Locate object and its variants have already been mentioned.

7) Eliminate areas where you can. For just about any character, there are a few areas that they either can't be in or can't easily be in. Don't go looking for that lich in Organia.

There's an item a lich can use (actually, anyone can use it) that can on occasion take you to Organia. So even though they can't sleep, they can still hit up Organia.

Of course, this means my badass lich now can't hide from you in Organia. Oh well.

1)Play an air shifter
2)Play a conjurer with clairaudience/clairvoyance, etc.
3)Participate in cabal wars, raids and reraids are good.
3b)VIsit ranking spots where enemies might be.
4)Play a villager and walk around Galadon to Hamsah killing newbs.
5)Pick off mudsexxors at the Inn.
6)Play an air shifter.

Hope is the worst of evils, for it prolongs the torment of man.

Follow heroes on he eastern road for loot.
Eventually they will become pissed and hire somebody to kill you. The fight is exactly you want, with your hero set you will not lose.

This advice is the most sad, yet, the most fun out of every suggestion given so far.

Too bad it won't matter if you are the guy 'on top' in your PK range. If no one wanted to fight you before because you're a warrior/paladin and your entire range is rogues and pre-30 mages, then it's not going to improve your chances either when you get the hero set.

I've had low-ranking characters successfully kill (and full loot, as per my request) other lower-level characters whom I've marked for death.

I'd like to add, that while playing an air shifter, learn the locations you usually find people from and use them as your rough target locations for your round, checking all nearby areas as you go. Stay constantly on move if you can.

Some ideas:

1. Check all the "reasonable" ranking spots for people of your level.

2. Check enemy cabal headquarters. Especially if your class hides, or can summon.

3. Check spots people sometimes use to spam practice skills. It's up to you to figure out where those places are.

4. Check major towns, eastern road, and the Inn.

5. Have people inform for you. Usually this will be cabal mates, but not always. Sometimes I try to form relationships with out-of-pk people who are either way above or way below my class. I tell them if I see any of their targets, and they tell me if they see any of mine.

6. Stay moving. Do all the stuff you'd normally do- gather gold, preps, look for gear, etc. Usually I just spontaneously run across PK opportunities while doing "other stuff".

7. If you have locate object, use it. Body parts and keys were two of my favorite things to locate.

#21954, "Think about what they are probably doing."

There are a few basic activities that everybody does, here are a few.

1. Trying to find people to pk as well
2. Ranking/helping people rank
3. Cabal raiding/re-raiding
4. Gathering Equipment
5. Gathering coin
6. Gathering preps
7. Exploring
8. RPing

Now, think about what the character that you want to kill is dividing his time between these activities and check areas that coincide with what you think he is spending more time doing.

An example is, for money, a lot of people kill dragons, so you can go check on dragon locations, then check hotspots for preps. If you know someone killed this dude and he needs to regain x equipment, you can check those spots.

This is probably better on paper than in practice, but that's my two cents.
