#21329, "Tips for the few who take duergars to hero?"
|
I'm just about to delete my character. My duergar is just about to hero ranks, and I can't believe how much damage I'm taking from paladins, and anyone with "those" weapons You know what I mean. I have stone skin, aura, shield, protection, and I'm just taking so much damage from "those" weapons it's almost pointless. Now, I see why noone takes duergars to hero anymore. All of these just do so much damage to me, and I have very good protections.
Is this the way duergars are suppose to be? I mean you can see the hidden, and that's a plus, but you just get completely destroyed by Sunray, and any, and everything anyone from the fortress does with "those" weapons.
Any tips? SHould I take the resist holy attacks legacy? Is that a necessity? I'm just lost. Taking +++(insert damage here)+++ from elves, and one caught me with an ====OBLITERATES==== Just makes me want to delete the character, because I can only imagine hero is going to be worse.
Any resist positive preps out there? I just need any kind of help.
Thanks.

Try this:
1) Wield iron weapon.
2) Hit elf back.
Are you obliterating them back? If not, your problem is probably not your vuln... or at least, you have several problems of which it's but one.

You should be on even footing against an elf, vuln wise. Maybe not a paladin, since that guy has a targeted move that deals holy damage, but against a warrior, yeah. You will simply not be able to compete against a top-tier paladin who has the right gear. So don't sweat it. For the non-top-tier paladins, it's the normal advice:
1. Use a weapon they're vuln to, if possible, or at least one they're not resistant to.
2. Use a weapon their class doesn't learn. This is always possible (i.e. whips and flails) but more difficult if he has the fortitude virtue.
3. Shield guys depend on their shield for defense, and on the wrath commune for their damage. So if you can get the shield out of their hands you're halfway there. Note that if he's wearing shield of pure light, this won't be possible. If you can't get rid of the shield, lag him so that his wrath commands are spaced out. Shield guys are harder to bash, so it helps if you have some non-bash version of lag.
4. Two-hand guys are, obviously, dependent on their weapon, and being able to perform their strikes. So if you can get rid of their weapon, or alternately lag them out, they're sort of meat. Obviously if he has a nodisarm weapon that's not going to happen.
5. Reduce the damage you take. Use preps, acquire the shield of blackest pitch, or just wear a lot of spell saves (for shield paladins).
