Several ages ago, I suggested this too. Could be a nice addition, but have to think if it would really be worth it game wise. I think it'd be nice as a way to kind of hide from those with detect hidden, or mess with people rp-wise.
Another idea is "blend" - in a spot with lots of NPCs, you can blend into the crowd and not be seen by anyone, unless they look at each NPC until upon closer inspection they see you there. Same for disguise.
Again though, not sure if it would be more than just a fun little thing. God knows we do need more ways to mess with Tribunals though!

This is extremely(!!!) deadly.
Seriously, I could "blend" into an area and wait for people to walk up to me, then pk them when they are unprepared.
If you can't see someone on where, and scan (if they are visible), it is a major chance to game balance.

This just brings back aweful memories of that Entropy Lich who would dopple pre 10 people. You'd be walking along happy an merry then this little young one would point his finger at you and say die VERY convincingly and then you'd have to find new clothes. I'd probably quit for good if something like this came back.

That Lich didn't dopple people. He could have, but, he didn't. People who used it soley for pk mechanisms had it taken away. At the end, it was given as a reward and not given automatically. I don't think bringing it back would add anything to the game.

Something similar for thieves and assassins. A disguise skill that removes them from where while sneaking, and makes them look like a comparable mob in the area. Like if used in Galadon, they could disguise themselves as a cityguard or merchant or whatnot. Give it a chance every tick that the disguise slips, or someone sees through it and the whole thing is ruined. Maybe make it so you have a lower chance of a successful disguise the further away from the target mobs natural appearance you are. IE felar would have a harder time disguising themselves as guards in Galadon, but easier in Blackclaw, humans would be the reverse, etc etc. It would fit in more with the classes that would be known to be capable of disguising themselves.
Maybe make it so stealing and assassinating have a chance of being hindered by the disguise as a way to balance it out, again based on the difference between your natural appearance and whatever you are disguised as. With proper drawbacks like those above and maybe a timer comparable to request lag while you "don your disguise", I think it could add a lot to those two classes. Maybe make it so you have to have a certain amount of the target mobs eq on, or something. You have to actually be wearing cityguard armor to look like one, etc. Just something to toss out there.

I think it would be cool to have an edge that turns "hide" into "disguise". You could never hide again, but you could disguise yourself as was mentioned above. That would be a RP angle because I think there would be a very OOC way to see though the disguise. "hmmm, that city guard is moving alot faster than they usually do." or "did that guard just look at me? Attack!" or even "I've never seen an evil galadon city guard before. Assassin!" But the role play part could be a lot of fun.
Maybe not even call it "disguise", call it "hide in plain sight".

or at least for the galadonian thieves to be able to hide from non thief/tribunal assassins in the city. Could lead to interesting conflicts between the local guilds and authority since they won't have lost their major strength on their home turf.

more like Piercing gaze. They won't be able to see them on who or on where.. but if the trib is in the same room with them they could see them.
But this should be like a kingpin or top three thieves of the guild ability only.

Doppling people for roleplay was quite possibly the most fun I've ever had in this game.
