#19319, "Observation skills."

This isn't a gripe by any means, so don't take it that way. I just wanted to bring up the fact that I think observation skills ought to be gained at learned, or at least at 50% or something, rather than 1%. From the theme of the skills and the helpfiles, it says you teach yourself to be more observant. For instance...

LEGENDARY AWARENESS 'LEGENDARY AWARENESS'
Syntax: legendaryawareness

Through careful observation, certain individuals **have taught themselves** to recognize the attributes of the most rare and unique items in the lands. With but a simple glance, those possessing the legendary awareness skill will easily grasp the importance of even the most innocuous looking object.

I mean...It's not like the observation skills are going to suddenly unlock the secrets of ST or anything. Wouldn't it make sense to gain them at least somewhat, if not all the way learned?

If you don't find them useful, you needn't practice them. If you do find them useful, paying a practice or two keeps INT/WIS valuable for skills where INT/WIS would logically be valuable. I'm fine with a fire giant or orc deciding that Legendary Awarenessisn't for them, and going with a more narrow skillset.

It was never intended to be "free stuff". It's an additional set of options you can earn.

But I still don't think it makes sense to train yourself to do these things, then have to see the guildmaster to unlock even the most basic of their use. I'm glad we have the options and didn't mean to come off as unappreciative, I was talking from a more "it doesn't make sense to me the way it is" sort of deal.

Also I'm kind of a hoarder of practice sessions. I'm in therapy for this.

I would like it if "gained skills" are not up for improvement via level gains. I am pretty sure I've got like 3% improvements on improved compare before, and that's like a little slap to the nads. Not a kick, but definitely a flick or an "uncomfortable rub".

Since those skills get improved on when you gain commerce/observe xp anyway.

Then don't practice them. You'll never get a gain in it.

The level gain is a small, random bonus, nothing more. Some obviously smaller than others. Personally, I don't want to start going down the path of "I don't want to see gains for X, Y, or Z in my level bonus" posts.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Sorry if there was a tinge of ungratefulness in there. I am very happy with the learning changes over the years.

Of course, now with smarty-arty-dexy race/class combos being so sexy, a little boost to learning rates for dummies so they can compete better, earlier, would be nice.

I still think int shouldn't be the deciding factor of learning motoric skills.

Once it hits 91% it's fantabulous.
