#18494, "Raiding and Retrival XP"

Any chance that these could add to edge XP or maybe towards cabal edges?

Of the handful of times I've given out immortal experience is because someone pulled off a raid against oppressive odds and actually got the item back.

I would not want this to be an automatic thing however.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Lots of retrievals are carried out by lowbies precisely because they are risk free.

Why should something risk free that you should be doing anyway count towards edges?

For that matter, why should a retrieval count in hero range if you only do it when you are at little risk.

But to hard-code it?

Just way too open to abuse.

At present, you have the potential to get imm exp for a particularly tough retrieval. Flawed, but less flawed than automated solutions.

And automatically assessing 'risk' is a difficult task. The code isn't going to have a precise idea of what character have an interest in defending a given cabal. A cabal might have a couple heroes on, but the raider might be aware that they're stuck somewhere where they're unlikely to retrieve. A lowbie might not have any enemies in range, but might have to deal with a hero invoker and healer standing nearby. Etc.

An observing human can make those calls pretty well, though. I'm all for reward alternatives, but we're pretty cautious about picking what's practical to automate.

You never can pick cabal edges, so that's sort of irrelevant.

I'm satisfied with the way raiding and edges play out at present.
