#17697, "Warcry"

So with all the hu-bub about warcry lately, it got me thinking. I says to myself, "Mek, when you go to a concert and shout out lyrics and get all pumped up from the music...do you stay pumped up for hours and hours and hours? Hells no." I was just thinking that it doesn't make sense for the effects of warcry to last as long as they do.

Solution: Change the skill to act more like it does when affected by the warcry legacy right now - less potent, but similar. It should be a brief explosion of inspiration and fighting skill...not a slow burn. Anyone with me here?

Would be kinda cool if it also boosted strength and dex stats for the duration. I could see situations where a warrior gets boneshattered or something, then shouts a desperate warcry and summons up enough strength to swing his sword for one last strike. That's just my theatrical side at work there.

Two things.

1. When you're in a decent contact sport or a bar brawl things get pretty amped and I wouldnt think I'm the only one who is unable to get to sleep from the adrenaline hours afterwards. Even though warriors would be doing this every day, they are fighting for their lives. This when channelled by a warcry could last hours IMHO.

2. I dont know, but last time I checked it didnt make RL sense to see a 4 foot midget morph into a lion and start mauling a chesspiece. A lasting inspirational warcry is far more believable than most other aspects of the game.

Ugh, let's leave that old argument out of the game. It really does nothing to help...anything. Not to jump down your throat (because everyone has made that point at some time or another when talking about CF), but I am talking about one specific thing here, not a general view of the game.

I have always felt that the warcry caused by the warcry legacy is really, well, more of a real warcry. As far as the bar fight comparison goes...you might be pumped up about smashing someone's face, but I doubt you remember every thing you yelled at the guy while you were doing it (which was basically a warcry). Adrenalin is already factored into the game.

You've more or less exactly described the effect of the existing skill Warshout-- short duration, extra strike(s) if done in combat, additional stat boosts.

I really like the idea about str/dex boosted, even if just for like 1 tick or something. Seems to follow along with the purpose of the warcry more than the current stuff, IMHO.

I agree with the logic of warcry in general being shortened, but from a gameplay perspective I don't think that's really necessary.

Following that logic, wouldn't you have to drastically reduce the duration of most bard buffing songs? Lots of those work on inspiration too, and like warcry, they're explicitly non-magical. I don't actually have all that much of a problem with your idea itself, but as far as logic goes, CF's handling of warcries is internally consistent even if it doesn't make that much real-world sense.
