#16813, "You took away Ventriloquate?"

That was one of my favorite spells. I mean, really, Tiatan actually perfected it. He used it all the time. So what if it makes sense with Bards? It has entertainment value, and there's no reason a mage -couldn't- do it? Is it really so unbalancing as to necessitate removal? So what if no one ever used it? I did, and I loved it, and I don't want to see it given only to Bards. </rant>

In general it had nothing to do with the theme of the classes. On the other hand, it makes perfect sense as a bard skill.

Is it really so unbalancing as to necessitate removal?

Theme, not balance.

Now I will be forced to taunt lowbies with other tools. Largely, by quickening those mobs they've been ranking on. Getting the mobs to tease them was, by far, more enjoyable.

Could we have some kind of limited item or something that could still be bought and used to ventriloquate? Its just so much fun, doing it from duo or on unsuspecting lower level groupmates It was a tool for pure comedy. I say, screw themes!

Yhorian.

PS -
*invoke Help! Some crazy bastard just jumped on me with something really sharp!*

That's Neps Imp override code. When invoked, he is forced to complain about the Valg-nerfing phenonoma.

Oh, come now, Mages are intelligent and diverse. Think of it as a cantrip. Some mage somewhere decided one day that this would be a nifty spell to have, perhaps as a parlor trick, so it was invented. It's simple enough that it was able to be learned by all Mages who decided to do so. Being the intelligent and clever beings that they generally are, they saw that sometimes there are situations in which it would be better to use such a spell than one of their normal destructive spells of which they are known. At any rate, there are entertainers and magicians who would gladly have such a spell in their arsenal. It wasn't hurting anyone for mages to have it, and it can be justified, so why not give it back? It's more of a roleplay spell than anything. Why take away such a tool from people who would properly utilize it? Surely Bards aren't the only beings who are supposed to entertain with such. They're already the only ones that can sing properly (which, personally, I'd like opened up to other classes as well, but that's a different topic).

>Theme, not balance.

Ventriloquate may not be on-theme for a mage exactly, but I don't know that it's really off-theme either. It feels pretty much theme-neutral, like Fast Healing or Pen. I've never been a big user of it, but I always practice it and usually get an entertaining moment or two out of it. Seeing that sacrificed on the altar of theme is a little disappointing.

This, and the removal of dopple (via Entropy removal) are two of the saddest (trivial) events in my cf history. Dopple was the single funnest ability cf has ever seen (for my money) and ventriloquate was fun for similar reasons.

I do see why bards should have such an ability though.
