#13253, "Request: Container Crumbling"

I understand that in CF, gear crumbles. Stuff that gets fenced to merchants then taken back somehow, limited items that go over the limit, items drop in rotting rooms, etc. I understand this part, and while I don't see a reason for it, I can live with this.

What gets me is when containers crumble, everything in them crumbles too. Why is this? When containers get destroyed by sacrificing, all the items tumble out. I would simply ask that if containers do happen to crumble for one reason or another, that the code treat it as sacrificed, so at least the stuff that was inside stays. It's an extreme buzzkill to have your container just up and crumble on you, destroying all preps and the like that you have inside.

I can't think of a reason why it would create a game imbalance to do this. Sure, take my container if it's no longer worthy of being in the game, but why the preps too? That's hours of gameplay right there, due to a process that isn't entirely in anyone's hands. It won't hurt anyone else to let me keep my preps when my container poofs, or at least have the ability to grab another container and pick the preps up off the ground. Bleh.

Containers most commonly crumble in one of two situations:

1) You did something that would equally affect the contents, like leaving it lying around certain inhospitable places.
2) You aren't on line (purging of limited gear for inactivity, etc.).

In the former case, there's no reason to change it. In the latter case, it would be weird for the gear to pop into whatever room you logged off from, and wouldn't do you much good most of the time anyway.
