#13136, "Should wither be pro-rated against expected lifespan?"

I know changes may be in the works that would invalidate this, but it seems like a quicky (I know, sometimes the simplest seeming code changes are actually intensive). It would certainly seem more fair to change wither so that it affects all races approximately equally, instead of hammering arials and humans and barely being noticed by the longer-lived races.

At that point, differing race lifespans wouldn't really mean anything anymore.

+age gear, I guess.

I've never thought age as anything other than an RP foil. I suppose race lifespans matter for wither and a few other odd & sundry things, nothing I've given much thought though.

But then again I feel 200 hours is a redic long time for a single char.

Personally I think age death should come at 250-300 hours for normal folk and leaders.

This is one of the down sides to playing an Arial, and it's really not all that much considering the relative ease with which you can cover this particular vulnerability. Give up +2 Dam and add some save vs. spell gear, and you should drastically reduce the odds of losing age to a wither.

Not saying it won't change at some point, but the above is one reason why it's not high on the priority list.

Not for nothing but when I played Skryth the doomed arial Harbinger, I had a ton of +sav gear. It didn't really seem to make a hill of beans difference though when you constantly have shaman as enemies. I was also disappointed on how little that helped in warding off the nasty rips years away affect. Now could I have played it safe and never fought the shamans, yes but that wasn't the roleplay of my character. Instead I did what my character would do and the shamans were able to ruin my character in no time. In fact I got so disgusted with that one, I haven't played since. At the very least you need to allow the character to see the change in his age so they don't get the shock of age dying at mature.

That which does not kill us,
makes us stronger.

At times you definitely did, but by far most of the times I looked in on you you either had very little or no saves (beyond warcry or a bless). For 100% sure, anytime I saw you get age-withered, you weren't packing.

Seeing the change in age on your score wouldn't be bad, although it would involve a medium-size rewrite of how age works period (since you're not actually aging, as it stands.)

You don't see the age change? Does this apply to items also?

Those affects subract from your total...

So.. Im a human and when I roll I'm going to live 80 years.

Wither... 72 years now...
Age item... 70 years now...

Neither of those would show in your total age, since you are
still the same age (code wise), though I know the echos surrounding
wearing a +Age item make it seem "You age before your eyes or something."

Hope that all makes sense...

It's just wither that's sneaky like that.

When you put on +age gear, you "age before your eyes" - get older. When you get racked by wither "years get ripped off your life" or some such echo - the age you are going to die just got smaller.

Why not just change wither so that instead of ripping years from the end of your life, it rips years from your life, just insta-aging you? Same end effect, but you get to see it. That, and it's just a cool image to see someone suddenly age five years
