Not the Monty Python type: spam, spam, spam and spam!

Not the junk email type: please we send 25 million dollar for you!

But the kind that folks use to start a pk. Does anyone find it annoying that a mage can stand there and repeatedly cast spell target with no lag and no mana use until a sneaky person walks into the room? What exactly is the point of having sneak if so? Same argument for the bash target warrior, tripping thief, you name it. It seems to me that there ought to be a larger cost for initiating a command at a target that isn't there.

Otherwise you've just used game mechanics to create your own waylay skill. Is that really any different than using log offs/log ons as a cheap form of hiding? (and yes I know the delay for cutting link now)

This is particularly the case for the summon target while your friends all spam pincer, bash, trip, etc.. or for catching that sneaky little drow.

And yes, I know this has been part of the game since the beginning a dozen years ago and yes I've used it myself in the long past. But when I spend too much time standing in the shower, I think of these kinds of things

Know what I find more frustrating? Thieves that stand in a room spamming blackjack, waiting for you to come attempt to engage them. Even worse, a thief-vs-thief fight where both parties stand there spamming jack, waiting to see who'll flinch first.

I know I've died because I overspammed trt (which is my alias for trip $target) and therefor seldom do such these days.

I can't see a change doing much more than massively empowering triggers.

FYI, I think even with free spam and infinite trigger savvy, waylay still has powerful advantages over anything you could cook up client-side.

Hmm, I can see the point except of course for sneak. Then there's nothing for the trigger to fire on unless they are spamming look too.

And I admit waylay has it's advantages, spam just sort of seems like a cheap way for other classes to make their own version of it. Especially the c sleep one from certain classes. In the past it was always annoying to walk in an be instantly slept when you know they didn't see you walk in and if they flee and you chase, same kind of thing.

But I see your point. Kids and triggers. Hrmph (old man grump)

Also, throwing triggers out of the equation, one of the most powerful killing abilities (summon) would be greatly toned down without anything being added to those classes.

For many classes (shaman, paladin, necromancer, anti-paladin...), summon is a non-negligable part of their arsenal in a PK fight, and I'm not sure I want to empower "insta-flee-ers" too much more, since already that's a fairly popular attitude towards fighting.

Yeah, it'd be nice against uber ganks, but it'd also negate a tool that, for instance, a two man team can use to break apart and win a 2 vs 5 fight, so its not quite as one sided as you'd think.
