I admit I didn't think of this when I put together the guts, but I believe the way it was done, it's your familiar doing the looking, and not you.
I'm OK with that-- one of the perks of Familiar is that it does makes exploration a little easier in some scenarios. At the end of the day, I think it's good to encourage people to go places "in person".
