#10918, "[ANAL] Inherent abilities..."
|
It has come to my attention recently that many of the races have inherent abilites that are somewhat "magical" in nature.
I was wondering. For the anal retentive/rager-wannabe (two seperate, though often similar) groups out there, if we could switch the listing of these abilites to a SKILL instead of a SPELL in the AFFECTs list.
It seems logical, at least, since it is technically a skill the race itself has developed over time or what have you. But I just thought it would be a nice touch. I don't want anyone getting confused on what those legions of overpowered battleragers can and can not do these days.

Eh, it's not a big freeking deal. You're playing a game where the so-called Haters of Magic can eat seaweed and grow some ####ing gills. I don't think we need to split hairs over the possible mystical nature of a drow's inherent Wink o' Pink.

That was actually the point of my post.
I'll chalk this one up to the "lost in text" syndrome.
I took a moment to read over it once I finished, and was hoping something like this wouldn't happen. The post was inspired by another conversation on the topic, so my orginal was meant to be a mockery of that.

Some magical spells leave physical affects (skill), some magical skills leave magical affects (spells).
If you'd like to specify which ones were recently brought to your attention, I'd be happen to let you know they are that way by design.

Alright. Groovy.

Well, sure thing.
I'll first begin with the Svirfnebli "Stone Skin"... to me, due to their dedication to stone, this would be more skill oriented than spell. You might even be able to go into the physical aspect of it, some sort of mediation practice or what-have-you. Plus, if it -was- a skill, you wouldn't be able to just (and I'm going on total speculation here) dispel it like the actual spell "stone skin".
Next, the Storm giant's "Call Lightning". I can see this being fairly magical in both nature and effect. Still, since it is an inherent, I can understand why ragers (since they were the topic at hand) can allow this.
Finally, the Dark elves "Faerie Fire". Some would say yah, the others nah. I've always understood this to be magical, especially since they used to get the spell at 100% before inherents were implemented.
Appreciate the offer. >Qaledus >qaledus@carrionfields.com > "Then hunger proved more powerful than grief." - Count Ugolino and the Tower of Hunger

I think of this as a non-magical skill and think it's unfortunate that it has the same name as the more commonly known spell. A bit of rationalization is that the spell takes its name from the Svirf inherent ability (which should really be a skill affect in my opinion). I don't if making it a spell affect was really by design or just easier.

Same thing, really. I don't see this as a magical ability any more than cloud giants levitating around.

This is magical by design. I believe 'magic' occurs right in the echoes.

Actually the Drow faerie fire inherite echo was changed to remove the word or action of magic in it. It is something that is inherite in the person, not learned or taught. So it is fine by ragers standards.
