I am just wondering/thinking that there should be something to protect very low level characters from aggro mobs that have tracked other characters to out in the open. Just today, I was running a lowbie quest and right in the path was this...

A small, chipped peridot gleams a pale green.
A crudely made iron spear lies discarded here.
Gertrude stands here giving you a killing gaze.
Aude the witch is murmuring soft curses to herself.
The Devil's Huntsman looms out of the mists.
The Devil's Huntsman looms out of the mists.
A hellhound prowls here, slavering for your soul.
Aude's wrath misses you.
Aude's wrath EVISCERATES you!
That really did HURT!
Aude is in perfect health.

You fade into existence.
Aude parries your pierce.
Aude's wrath DISMEMBERS you!
You have been KILLED!!

It is just frustrating when this crap happens... Anything that can be done about this?

There is code in place that minimizes some of this from happening. For example, some mobs don't track at all. Some only track for short distances. Some track you all over Thera. Area writers also have a great deal of control over this type of mob behavior.

Without knowing where you were when this happened, I won't tell you that you 'should have used scan' - but if it happened at the entrance to the Emerald Forest, I'd recommend scanning in there before entering next time. The witches sometimes try to take over the whole forest, not just their part of it.
