#848, "Regarding registered CF members"

Disclaimer:

I have nigh 0 knowledge of coding, web design, any and all
incorporated skills associated with internet stuff, aside
from navigating to where I want to be.

When I browse Dio's, I don't have to log in, unless I actually
clicked log out.

However, when I "rarely" log into this website as a user, I am
prompted for my PW every time. If I walk off to go take a ####, I have to log in when I get back, even if I rushed the paperwork.

My reasoning for this, is because I browse the forums by highlights, and what is newly posted. However, If I log in to post, since I cannot as a guest, EVERY topic on the site is highlighted as new, since I don't log in just to browse here and there.

Could it become possible, to log in, check the forums, then go off to cf-land, or what have you, and be able to return after a period of time, to find myself still logged in?

I'd probably post a lot more, but i've curbed anger-management issues anyhow, so it couldn't be That bad.

I've found it easiest to just remain logged in 24/7. If you do this, you can hit "Mark" in each forum to mark all the messages as read, and then only things you haven't seen yet get the colored tag as new.

It doesn't seem like I can be.

As if I time out or something. I won't log out manually and
I get an expired error or something like that.

Was I doing something that logged me out?

I won't log out manually and see what happens, but I am pretty
sure I "get" logged out after a period of time.

Do you frequently delete cookies, or are you running software that does this? If you tell the website to leave you logged in between visits, it does this via a cookie.

The most I know what a 'cookie' is, are those two files
that won't delete when I clear my temp file folder.

I think I found part of the problem though.

If I click to go back to my homepage, which is the forum page,
I see the Login link, not log out. But when I am in an actualy forum,
it shows the Logout link

BTW the mark tip helps, a bundle

If I post as incognito, and then "back-click", everything is marked as unread.

I went to each forum, and marked everything as read,
so when the new posts come up, the forum would be highlighted,
but its not. When I open the forum, it shows new posts have been
added, but I didnt know just from looking at the forum list

The default is for the forums to log you out, but you can change the default:
1. Log in
2. Click "User menu" (top menu option to the right of "Mark")
3. Click "Edit your preference"
4. Scroll down a little to "Remain logged on when you return to use the forum at a later time?" and change the setting to "Yes"
5. Scroll down a little more if you want to use "Mark" - look for "Use MARK time stamp feature?"

Note: you can also set your preferred time zone here along with several other settings.

I should know better than to speak on web-related matters. I will now resume hiding behind Yano and Qaledus.
