#4572, "Assorted newb questions"
|
Here is a list of questions, many thanks to any who provide answers to any.
1. Pen - help file seems to suggest you can write scrolls, does this mean you can craft recitable scrolls or is it Notes only?
2. Is stone skin purely better damage resistance over sheen of stone?
3. Move regen --- con, not dex, right?
4. Any edges particularly helpful as a newb?
5. Link to weapons ranked by usefulness for Parry?
6. Any primer on grouping etiquette, basic tips (eg auto assist off if you're using mana and need to rest)
7. Any cf acronym dictionary?
Thanks!

It is useful when dealing with some mobs too.

Subtle differences (like things that prog against stone skin may not against sheen of stone). Also the ac effect differs iirc. That can matter at low level and for the legacy "gates of the forge".
>3. Move regen --- con, not dex, right? > Yes, used to be dex and now is con.

Too broad a question. For example, as an Orc the demon in the woodpile edge is useful. I'd try to take seasoned traveller, calmed mind etc.

IMO it depends what you are trying to parry.

Get to the other site FAQ section, it's there. Along with a TON of other information (some of which may be misinfo, but the rate is fairly low).

Pen is only for creating physical notes you can hand to people. Obviously useful for roleplay purposes, but also for a few quests.
>2. Is stone skin purely better damage resistance over sheen of >stone?
It also provides slightly better AC, which can aid your armor deflection and with other more specific abilities like a specific warrior legacy
>3. Move regen --- con, not dex, right?
I -believe- that the max about of moves is based on dex, but the regen is con. I may well be wrong.
>4. Any edges particularly helpful as a newb?
One of our IMPs suggested that he would take multiple low level edges over one or two expensive edges. His claim doesn't hold a lot of water, though, because his characters always managed to accrue a few zillion edges. As a newb, I can't recommend any one without knowing more about your character and what problems you are facing.
>5. Link to weapons ranked by usefulness for Parry?
Warrior Swords are your best parry option. Your best defensive options as a specced warrior might well be ranked as sword/polearm (giants)/staff/exotic(w/exotic legacy). If you are another class, your will probably get the best mileage out of sword/exotic + shield or a staff/spear.
>6. Any primer on grouping etiquette, basic tips (eg auto >assist off if you're using mana and need to rest)
As a newb, do what your companions are doing and ask if you need help. The worst thing you can do is violate an expectation, for some people will destroy you for it instead of telling you what they need from you.
>7. Any cf acronym dictionary?
No, but that is a good idea.

They are almost exclusively for RP purposes. There are a couple of NPCs that are smart enough to respond to written notes (e.g., "yes" to start a quest), but really it's just RP. Though there's some strategy in being able to communicate with your allies while deafened, etc. (I'm 90% sure that works).
>2. Is stone skin purely better damage resistance over sheen of >stone?
Stone skin has some other specific (and niche) advantages and disadvantages, in some cases.
>3. Move regen --- con, not dex, right?
Correct.
>4. Any edges particularly helpful as a newb?
I wouldn't say so. Maybe the human ones (e.g., Urbanite) or Strong Back / Deep Pockets. If you stick with a character with decent wisdom long enough to lose most of your CON, then perhaps Wise Recovery.
>5. Link to weapons ranked by usefulness for Parry?
I'm pretty sure Daevryn (possibly Nepenthe at the time) posted this if you care to search. I looked quick but struck out.
>6. Any primer on grouping etiquette, basic tips (eg auto >assist off if you're using mana and need to rest)
My biggest pet peeve is a group member who isn't paying attention. Be responsive, eat/drink, be ready to rescue/flee/recast/assist on the PKer, etc.
>7. Any cf acronym dictionary?
Not that I'm aware of, but you're always welcome to ask on the forums.
>Thanks!
